I never said that. I do believe that quotas and setasides are not the way to attck the problem. I hav eno problem with a "Rooney" rule, per se. I do think it is pointless because without a quota there is no teeth.

Black coaches have been and are continuing to get shafted.
Racism plays a part in some cases, in others it doesnt.
It doesnt add up that near 50% of the players are black but less than 5% are HCs.
Its the whole Black QB theory that was smashed in the early 1990s. (i still think it exists to an extent)

From this point forward, black coaches will get more looks. I believe that Turner Gill will get his chances to move up. He has some qualities that built his resume. He was a highly successful QB at highly successful Neb program, coached by top coaches. He stands to be the poster child for future candidates. If he is successful. BUT.....
He is currently in a great recruiting situation, with Syracuse so down and Rutgers losing some luster. He beat Temple to win the conference championship this year that brought out the spotlights, but on a Hail Mary pass as time expired. Will these components follow him when he gets the next job, or will he be TY part 2? But if he is a winner, the trends will change.

Good point. It definitely deserves further review.
One point made by some ESPN commentators a few days ago is that many qualified black coaches take position coach jobs in the NFL that pay very well compared to second-level coordinator and HC positions in NCAAF. That may restrict the pool of quality applicants.
I think there is some disparity in result, but it may be hard to pin on any one cause. There was a time when black quarterbacks were in short supply in major college football and even more so in the NFL. A variety of factors have resolved that in the area of QBs--and NFL head coaches.

"Rep. Joe Barton of Texas, the ranking Republican on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, didn't specify what sort of playoff he wants -- only that the BCS should go." See LINK.
There seems to be a bipartisan consensus or just Texas sour grapes.

Basketball, pro and college, have been hiring black coaches from 40 years now.

absolutely nothing....
the way it should be
having said that, there is always risk in ANY hire..
my point is that some ADs see less of a backlash if they play it safe.
right or wrong is a different issue
