If he turns them down, they may look at Big 10 guys like Franklin, Ryan Day (probably not lol). I don’t think they want Yaba Dabo. Maybe Marcus Freeman, who knows.

That’s the obvious choice I think

It is sounding more and more like Bama did not have a plan for this. Wow.

Just put this in another thread, but I wouldn't be surprised if he is the hire.

He won't be Alabama's first choice. Hell, he may not be their 5th or 6th choice. But with college football trending to being, essentially, a two conference league, he likely sees the writing on the wall at FSU.

He recruits the same landscape as Alabama. He had a very talented team this year that if not for awful luck at the end may have played for a championship. He will, likely, never be as much "in demand" as he is now. And he probably feels he'd have a better chance to replicate this year's success at Alabama than he does at FSU as the financial divide between the Big 10/SEC and everyone else grows wider.

FSU has already made it clear they want out of the ACC. The reason is because they know the Big 10/SEC is leaving the rest of the conferences behind. The problem is there may not be a home for FSU. Knowing that, Norvell may say this is my shot a greatness...even though it is going to be a high pressure situation. Lanning (Big 10) Deborer (Big 10) and others don't really have the external pressures of being in a "weaker" (financially) confernece.

Norvell would be more than a solid hire. Great offensive mind who knows how to build a team in today’s world like Kiffin

i'd liken norvell to a saban type hire when LSU hired him the first time.

They can’t strike out with Norvell with Lanning denying, and if they allegedly didn’t contact Kiffin

All indications are the retirement was completely unexpected. Yes, the AD knew this day would eventually come. And he probably had a general thought of potential targets when it did. But he likely also felt he would have significant prep time to gear up for a search. Again, by all indications everything was status quo yesterday morning. So there was no reason to consider a plan for a coaching change

Shhhhhhh, don’t put that into the world.

He would be a great hire and worst case scenario for all of us excited that Saban is finally gone imo.

Would be funny.
Bama knocks Georgia and FSU out of the playoffs, then hires the fsu coach.

My only knock on Norvell is he did not have even a passable backup to take over once the injury happened. No plan B. Bellichek looked like a genius when Tom Brady was there, but without him... Could be the same story with Norvell

Its going to be hard to convince someone at a big program to come coach in Sabans shadow.

I would laugh my arse off if they take James Franklin or Ryan Day before Dabo.

This season was the first time Dabo hasn't won 10 games since 2010 and he still went 9-4.

The guy has two National Championships (which he beat Saban for) and played in two more CFP championship games. He is a former Bama player and started his coaching career there.

Before Dabo took over, Clemson had become a joke. Anytime any college team choked a game that they should have won, people would call it, "pulling a Clemson".

Exactly what box does he not check off, that Bama would want? He seems head and shoulders above any other name I've seen mentioned. I don't know what his buyout situation is like but other than that being ridiculously high, I can't see any reason why they wouldn't take a run at him.

Dabo, Norvell, Lane.

It will be one of those three and probably in that order.

Can forget all the other names imo.

He did. That kid got a concussion in the 12th game and had to sit out the ACC Championship game. Then after FSU got hosed out of the playoffs, he entered the portal and didn't play in the Orange Bowl. They were playing a freshman 3rd string those last two games.

Yeah the backup transferred to USM. Nobody in his way and he bounced. DJ coming in should have scared him away. No chest. That was his Plan B
