I certainly understand Riley, or any coach, not wanting to expose their players to such a situation. Having all of those "fans" on the field like that is a brawl waiting to happen.

I can also see an argument for at least a delay of game penalty with more accruing each time the play clock expired.

His actions indicated a high level of awareness of the overall situation.

Riley was speaking up for his team. The humiliation of running into the locker room and then having to come out for a "pointless" FG. It was good to see him fighting against that.

Game was over, Baylor could have taken a knee to end the game. But there's a tie breaker rule in the Big 12 where they count how many wins you have of more than 10 points (I think), so Aranda went big brain and called a timeout to allow a FG try to make it a 13 point game.

I didn't see it happen live, but I think the fans stormed the field prematurely thinking the game was over and the OU players left the field. Refs had to tell Riley there was still one play left and he had to bring his team back out. Riley was livid, and we assume it's because he feels there should have been a 15 yard penalty against Baylor that would have meant a 10 second runoff and the game would be over so he wouldn't have to bring his team back out. Refs disagreed, and after a lot of shouting, OU's special teams unit came out, Baylor kicked the fg, game over.

Exactly, if Riley is so offended do something on the field and block the damn kick. Whining afterwards reminded me of Day in 2019 moaning Ohio St didn’t get the #1 seed. No shock Clemson took them out with that leadership example.

You don’t think there were player safety issues involved here?
I do. I’ve seen where a knucklehead or three gets into it with a player in these type situations.

You really want a guy who would go against the code of sportsmanship? No thanks!

Was he really bitching that much about it? He was asked a question about the FG and said he understand why Aranda did it, but didn't think it was good sportsmanship. It's not like he went on for several minutes about it and it's not like he brought it up unprompted.

As for the sportsmanship comment, he might have been talking about having to get his team to come back out on the field after the fans had stormed it as much as anything. I highly doubt he would have said anything about it if the fans hadn't come on the field.

There is a difference between kicking a FG with 1:20 left to play and calling a timeout to kick one with 0:03 left to play.

Not only that, but Riley and OU wants everyone to feel sorry for them because it's "against football etiquette." LOL well for starters it's a legitimate strategy and second OU has never run up the score on someone just for the fun of it. I really don't want Riley here, but hey whatever.

"It was something that we talked about earlier in the week," Aranda said. "We were really trying not to let them score [a final touchdown] and unfortunately that didn't happen. When that didn't happen, we wanted to get back on the scoreboard to help with that differential."

The statement above speaks to his level of preparation. This was a scenario contemplated days ahead of the actual game. To have someone on the sidelines with this level of situational awareness should separate him from the pack.

all he would need is a prolific OC and I’d be quite happy.

Didn’t he also pull some amazingly talented classes at Texas? That helps quell any “Aranda can’t recruit” worries.

It should have been a walk in touchdown. The refs allowed Riley to get his players (who he had already sent to the locker room) back on the field. There is no rule saying the defense has to be on the field for play to continue. They should have set the ball down for play, Baylor should have snapped the ball and casually strolled in for the TD.

Riley acted like a bitch over that and Aranda had legitimate reason to put points on the board.

Riley got his players off the field because thousands of students were storming it. I don't think Riley sending his guys to the locker room was unreasonable at all. The Oklahoma players were just supposed to stand around in the middle of the field storming fans? That's absurd.

Riley didn’t have to bring anybody out of the locker room. He could have just let them run a play. There is no minimum number of players required on the defense.
