Well, part of being a good coach (or administrator in general) is the ability to recognize capability in others. Do you think Orgeron would be able to consistently do that? His history doesn't lead me to believe it.
Hey, I agree with you...I don't think O is the guy. I just disagree that a great coach doesn't require good assistants.

Is not a good coach. Good coaches have assistants who come and go.
Only someone who is dumb would hire less than the best assistants available especially when you have the resources to do so. I guess Saban is not a good coach since he wanted O and hired Kiffin, and recently hired Pruitt when Smart left. When you run an enterprise, you need good people around you for it to succeed unless you're the type of person who likes to do everything yourself. I don't even have to explain what the outcome of that will be for those who already know.

This is a dumb premise. Good bosses know how to hire good help, it's part of the job, regardless of how often they need to do it.

A bad coach REQUIRES "the best" assistants to succeed, and is mediocre to bad without them.

If HC don't need good assistants then why everybody want Aranda to stay and think we need to get rid of Grimes and BDP?

I agree. Look at Coach Saban, he stinks. Has what - 3 or 4 former head coaches on his staff

You obviously have no idea how any successful large entity is run whether it be a company, a government, the military or a football team do you?

Agreed. But I'm almost to the point of saying give in to the dilusional rantards and hire O. The excuses they would unleash when he finishes what Miles started would be entertaining and worth it.

I don't know what's worse. The original post or the guy who said exactly.

You're only as good as your weakest link

I like O as a recruiter and motivator, but he would be an "average" head coach. LSU has already been down that road.
Elite college coaches are gifted offensive or defensive "specialists". LSU must make this type of hire. I personally do not want to settle for average.

Name some good coaches without good assistants
Jimbos D is crushing it without Pruitt

That statement is totally wrong.

I want to slap Derek Ponamsky in face with a brick.

So saban doesn't know what he's doing? Where does some of this stupidity come from
Posted on 11/25/16 at 3:46 pm to blueboy
Oh my. So much dumb in your statement. It's incredible.

Don Shula was a RB in college and a DB in the NFL. He was a defensive coordinator for 3 years before becoming a head coach. But Shula was always more involved in the offense in Miami and a master of building the offense around the weapons he had. He went from having a dominant run game in the 70's to the most prolific passing offense in the NFL in the mid 80's. He won a few games along the way too.

OMG, what an idiot statement - Obviously you dont hire and manage an organization
Posted on 11/25/16 at 3:50 pm to blueboy
Every coach requires good assistants to be good.
Posted on 11/25/16 at 3:59 pm to blueboy
Exactly. Good assistants employ what the Head Coach wants. Not dictate. Yes, they call plays, etc but only after the Head Coach approves them.
