Jimbo would be failing while having a good resume. No one is an idiot for hiring Fisher even if he doesn't work out. Fisher has some flags, but he's proven he can win long term, that is huge. Most common signs say that he is a better coach than O. Full stop.
However, there are red flags all over the place with O. There are many signs that say you shouldn't hire him. So yes, if you do and he fulfills those red flags and fail, then yes you would be dumb.
Every coach has a chance to fail, you do the best job you can trying to find one who can lead you to success. It doesn't always work out, but there are things that can lead you to the correct decision.

I am not in any way following this logic
if Jimbo fails miserably, you will not convince many Jimbo supporters that O could have done better
but since Jimbo is much more qualified, if O were to get the job and fail, many would wonder "what if" we had an actual proven HC
Jimbo is the safe and smart answer if you can get him. If he fails, it damn sure doesn't mean the O crowd had it right all along

Most fans didn't like dumbo as oc. Now let's give him a chance. Call me confused. I'm ready for a desicion and that's scary as it lays in joes hands.

If you cant' accept that Les was interfering with Jimbo's offense right before he left, hence the disdain, then you're one of those people who plug their ears shouting the same thing over and over. Pointless to talk to.

We are NOT comparing Les Miles to Jimbo Fisher! Miles is GONE, he was the coach, refused to change his offense to modern times and was fired. We're comparing Fisher to Orgeron. And there is no comparison!
No one is saying Miles didn't have a good record at LSU. We're saying let's try to get another coach with documented success building and running a top program, as Alleva said was the criteria, and especially one that can improve our offense. Let's not settle on an interim coach who has rallied the troops and run off some wins against teams we were favored to beat! This is not your typical interim situation where a coach takes over a crappy team. LSU is supposed to win these games.

Miles' career win percentage is 72%, Fisher's is 82%. If you limit Miles' career to just LSU, it's 77%.
So Jimbo is still, based on win percentage, better than Miles.
Orgeron's career win percentage is 42%. So yeah, if the choice is Orgeron, LSU would probably have been better off keeping Miles given how inferior Orgeron's resume is.

What is the point you are trying to get at? You've beat around the bush a lot.
If you want O, just say it. But there is no fricking metric in all of the universe that makes him more qualified than Jimbo nor one that makes Jimbo not qualified for this job.
There is not an available candidate with a better resume', period.
You can keep talking in circles, and comparing hypothetical scenarios, but it doesn't change facts.

I'm not against hiring Jimbo, in fact I'm board 100%.
Just hate to see the O bashing when he has done nothing to deserve it at this point.
He's got these guys motivated and fun to watch. Can't fault him for that.

That was the point of the thread, not to bash O, but point out how absurd it is to claim that he is a better choice than Fisher. O has done a good job this year and IF Fisher and Herman are off the table, then he should be considered (not the favorite).

Maybe after he's been here a while and the DL becomes the best in the nation, he'd have more of a claim.
Still he'd need a top notch OC and right now we don't have that.
A good offensive minded HC paired with Aranda and we'd be hard to beat.
