Looking at Don Quixote, Count of Monte Cristo and Brothers Karamazov

I can only speak for The Count of Monte Cristo of those three but it is one of my all time favorite books. Over 1k pages and little to no slogs. I love that book so much. Probably could have started it over and read it again as soon as I was done wit it. Really hated when I finished it.

I'd rank them:
1. Count of Monte Cristo
2. Brothers Karamazov
3. Don Quixote

Guess which one I recommend?

Read Atlas Shrugged in 2017 (1147 I think?); read The Stand in 2021 (1476 I think); currently reading Les Misearbles at 1732 (on page 750). I’m enjoying Les Mis and loved the first two, but a long book is a big commitment but worth it IMO. All took me a few months.
Next on my list would be The Count of Monte Cristo, but it won’t be for a few more years because I like to space them out,
After that, War and Peace.

Definitely not Don Quixote. I took it with me to Europe while backpacking for 2 months after college because I thought it would be a good idea to carry one book that would last me a long time. I don't think I ever finished it (even though I did pick up tons of other books at hostels and such which I did read). I know it's super important as to the historical development of the novel as a genre... but it just wasn't very enjoyable to me.
The other two are both great.

I may refer to it as "The Can of Moldy Crisco", when I speak of it...but I actually love the Count of Monte Cristo. It is so well written and is a great read.

One day I’ll take another shot at Brothers K - just couldn’t stay into it.

First half is character development and philosophical worldviews. The 2nd half is the carrying out of those worldviews in plot action, that often references the first half.

The Count of Monte Cristo is phenomenal. I have not read the other two yet but hear great things. I went straight from The Count of Monte Cristo to The Three Musketeers (also Dumas) and liked it so much I am reading the whole trilogy. Just finished Twenty Years After and about to start The Man in the Iron Mask.
Don't sleep on War & Peace either!

Highly recommend The Count of MC. Read initially in middle school and have completed 6 more times over the years.
Also just finished the PBS Series. Very well done and aligns well with the book. The other 2 movie adaptations are utter trash.
