Don Quixote would be my choice.

Don Quixote is weird, but worth it if you can get into it.

It’s definitely not a written version of the cartoon from growing up.

Go with COMC.

The Count of Monte Cristo

Agreed. Fantastic book.

My wife ridiculed me and said it is no comparison to Brothers Karamazov when I asked her, so either of those would be a good start in my opinion. She has pretty good taste for a girl, so I’d trust her opinion.

Read Atlas Shrugged in 2017 (1147 I think?); read The Stand in 2021 (1476 I think); currently reading Les Misearbles at 1732 (on page 750). I’m enjoying Les Mis and loved the first two, but a long book is a big commitment but worth it IMO. All took me a few months.

Best 1000+ page novels Ive ever read? Herman Wouk’s Winds of War books. Probably the best historical fiction ever put to paper. You felt like you were in the war with real people.

Looking at Don Quixote, Count of Monte Cristo and Brothers Karamazov

That's 3 good choices for hefty books. I would read them in reverse of your order listed here.
