Just finished Low Town by Daniel Polansky and have started the second on the series. Excellent noir grimdark novel. Fans of Abercrombie, Thieve’s World, etc… will enjoy. Not sure I’ve seen it recommended in this thread yet.

I can see the ending leaving mixed feelings. Saw a small hint early on but didn’t expect the full end. I liked it just fine but can see why one wouldn’t.

Without going into spoilery detail, I certainly saw the ending coming. I don’t even mind the scope in a vacuum. My objection comes to specific facets which… cause problems. But anyway, start a spoiler thread and we can chat about it

Finished the Low Town trilogy by Dnaiel Polansky last night. I'm really surprised, with this board's love of grimdark, that this series hasn't gotten more hype/love in this thread. Highly recommend for those who like Abercrombie, Cook, etc.. I think I read all three books in about 5 days.
Also read The Price of Fear by Miles Lyon prior to that, which was also really enjoyable Grimdark. Sadly, I thought the trilogy (called the Wretched Trilogy) was already finished prior to reading this one only to discover that only this first book has been completed (breaking my soft rule of not starting incomplete series except in rare circumstances of authors I really love).

As I've mentioned before to much ridicule on here, i was very underwhelmed by the first three red Rising books when I read them a few years ago. But decided I'm going to jump back in and finish the series especially since Red God is coming soon.
Unfortunately I have the memory of a goldfish.
Can anybody recommend a good Red Rising recap youtube video, podcast, article? needing to refresh my memory before I jump back in.

I may finally jump in as well. I’m finishing up Keegan’s “First world war” then I want to commit to another fantasy series. I’ve been planning on doing Sun Eater, but red rising has been so hyped the last few years I kinda wanna see what the hype is about. A guy at work said he couldn’t stand the main character so he didn’t make it far and I saw some on here say it reads more “young adult” so all that turned me off from it for awhile, but I think it’s gotten too popular to completely write off. We’ll see.

I mean, I think that the next two books are awesome. But I definitely found myself frustrated with the fifth.

Finished Iron Gold (RR #4) and thought it was better than the first three. The numerous POV's helped a lot and it was good enough to keep me going.
Still honestly don't get all the love affair for the series though. Not a Darrow fan so that is part of the problem but also just the non stop captures and escapes, things are going good aha they are not going good, a bomb going off every chapter, and a fake death. The series should be renamed Gotcha Rising. So many gotcha moments.

Dark Age and Light Bringer are miles ahead of Iron Gold. They still keeps the multiple POVs in those so I hope you enjoy them. Still no word on the last book, but I expect it in 2027 based on how much he had written in the last update.

Words of Radiance is one of the best books I've ever read. Even if I hadn't liked Wind and Truth, I'd regret not have read the rest of the series.

Just finished the recently released Book 4 of Brennan Morton’s the Pendulum Series, The Rat Catcher. In the afterword he reveals that there will be nine books total and seems to have the entire series laid out. Highly highly recommend for fans of Abercrombie or Cook. I kind of hate starting series that haven’t been completed, but he’s finishing and releasing the books at a rapid clip so far.
Anyway, I’ve recommended the books a few times in the thread lately, but really feel they’re worthwhile.

Pre ordered this and it came in last night. Only got 15 pages in but definitely promising. Been looking forward to it since it was announced.

Yeah, that definitely wasn't my intent with that post.
There's a reason that the third book in the series, Oathbringer is sometimes thought of as the best fantasy novel of the last 20 years.
It's such a great series overall and well worth reading, but the fourth and fifth books are definitely not as good as the first three.

Maybe recency bias but Mount Char is seriously one of my all time favorite books. Don't think I've ever read a book then re-read it less than a year later but I did with it because it stuck with me so much.
I'll just past the goodreads description because I just started and can't really give a good description. Feels like an adult Jungle Book if I had to say something...

Based on some off hand comments I've seen Brandon say recently, I think he knows that 4 and 5 were a bit...dense.
I do hope that he recalibrates once he picks it back up after finishing the Ghostbloods Trilogy, Mistborn Screenplay(s), and likely some work on Stormlight Screenplays
