I finished up Assassin’s Apprentice and started Royal Assassin today. I’m enjoying it so far. Wasn’t expecting book 2 to be so much longer than the first.

Just finished Company of Bones, the first in the Pendulum series by Brennan Morton. Damn… this one took me by surprise. Really solid, and I hope the remaining books live up to the start. It’s like a little more lighthearted Black Company.

Finished The Faith of Beasts, the second book in the Captive's War Trilogy, this past weekend. I hope the third book starts ramping up things, because while an interesting read, not a lot happens.
Started on Red Rising last night. I know next to nothing about his series. But it comes highly recommended here and other places. It was a busy weekend, and I was exhausted, so I only got through the first two chapters.

Same finished assassins apprentice. It was good not great like 3.5 out of 5. I’ll keep going just for how many people said do it but I’ll prob take a break after book 3.

Picked up the physical copy of Blacktongue Thief and maybe 100 pages in.
I listened to 4 hours of it on Spotify a few months ago and the author is the narrator and it is absolutely the most outrageous narration ever. He went with the most extreme fake Irish accent ever ad it was legit painful on the ears. Couldn't understand half of what he was saying. But really wanted to give this a go and I'm thoroughly enjoying the first 1/4 of it.

I was talking about the series in general but yeah, book 1 gets a hell of a lot more interesting after the first few chapters. I thought that each book was better than the last.

The only “step back” is prob book 4 but yea great series. Held up on reread too.

Finished Royal Assassin and started Assassin’s Quest. I was worried Fitz was going to be retarded for a while but luckily he is already back to being depressed. I like the series, but I don’t know if there is enough going on to justify how long these books are.

Halfway Royal Assassin. Enjoying this one more than the first. I’ll prob finish first trilogy, do something else then jump back in.

I just read Slan (1940) by A. E. van Vogt. I know that Slan is a sci-fi classic in many ways, and this (long before X-Men) was the first novel to portray mutants with superpowers who are then persecuted by ordinary humans.
But, even though the novel is wildly inventive and fascinating at many points, I simply couldn't really enjoy it, as parts of it just seemed too ridiculous.
I know that some people (most notably Phillip K. Dick) have really enjoyed van Vogt's chaotic style, but it doesn't work for me.

On Book 5 of the Spellslinger series. Really enjoyable and will be bummed to finish it. My main complaint is that the books are pretty short by modern fantasy standards.

Finished up Assassin's Quest today. I don't know if I can keep going. It was a cool story but it progressed so damn slowly. Re-reading The Odyssey and not sure what I will do after.

Really fun series, love the Parfax character. Not quite as good as Greatcoats, but still really good.

Agreed Spellslinger was good but greatcoats was way better. Need to read his other series too at some point. Agree on who said they’re doing Farseer, on book three and it’s fine but not the super cool fantasy read it was built up to be.

Blacktongue Thief: 3/5 stars. It's like 410 pages and I think I read two other books before I finished it. Really really wanted to like it but it was just meh. It'd have a good chapter then have 3 boring chapters. I wasn't a big fan of his humor as well and there was a good bit of it. Just didn't do it for me.
