Films Superior To Novel
I’m going with Jaws and The Silence of the Lambs. Any others?

Fight Club

The book is still pretty great, but the film changed it enough, and was more impactful imo.

Maybe it is because I saw the movie many times before I read the book, but I think The Godfather was a better film than a book.

I’m especially glad the movie didn’t delve into the bizarre plot line surrounding Sonny’s mistress’s gaping loose vagina.

"V for Vendetta," as long as you can include graphic novels.

Shawshank was better as a movie, but it may not qualify since it was only a novella.

The king of this category

Also Cape Fear (original version!!!) is much better than the novel it's based on. The novel is almost entirely long conversations between the hero and his wife about what they should do. The Max Cady character only appears in one scene, very briefly.

How did the editor not ask him to leave that out. That whole Vegas plot line with the doctor was a waste of time. I would go with The Shining. Loved how Kubrick crushed King's little red vw bug to serve as a screw you to king:

I agree. There are a lot of things that Peter Jackson changed that I feel were better.

October Sky, a great movie, was a bit better than the book Rocket Boys.

I agree. Many films adapted from King novels were better than the books. The Dead Zone, Firestarter, Shawshank. Green Mile to name a few.

Jurassic Park (to a lot out there)

I totally disagree. The novel was much better than the film.

re: Films Superior To Novel
Agree that The Shinning was better as a movie but I disagree that Midnight In The Garden Of Good and Evil was better as a film. I may be a bit biased though since when I was in grad school James Berendt attended one of my seminar classes and I was fortunate enough to accompany him to dinner with some of fellow classmates and professors. He was a very nice and interesting man.

I also had a similar experience with Helen Thomas. She could tell a very good story and after covering ten presidents (at the time she had only covered 8), she had a lot of stories to tell.
