I wonder if George is already done and wants both to be released after his death? He won’t have to listen to fans complain if he’s not around to hear it.

Sometimes I think he's just stopped writing out of spite over the criticism. Has any artist ever been so loathed by his own fanbase?

There's no way his publicist would not know about it, and there is no way they would let that happen.

I can see it happening…particularly in light of not being able to please everyone…and loud screamers get so hateful and annoying. Hell, I would do that if I already made a bunch of money from the series!

That Name-of-the-wind boy. Won’t even type his name.

Seconded. Martin is still minor leagues compared to him.

I don’t. I’m confident he has done this. It’s sad since I think he had a great idea with the Scouring of the Shire ending with Dany burning down King’s Landing, but it was pulled off as poorly as possible by the show runners.

I don’t think so. Even with Ryan Johnson and Kathleen Kennedy, at least they were outsiders. I don’t blame Lucas for being a bit resentful with the fanbase especially in retrospect, but I think he was more sad over the fan’s reaction rather than anger, and he hasn’t just tarred his fans as evil as they have.

Look at what the Fat Man has to say about the show.

He was worried about them going off his template after season 5.

This is distancing himself from the fervor following the end, but still fricked up since his template should have been completed a decade ago.

I read another interview where he said he literally begged HBO's CEO personally to add two additional seasons so his story could be told fully and they wanted to but D & D absolutely refused to. They were tired of it and wanted to be done. HBO then refused to continue it with different show runners.

I get google news almost everyday about GRRM and the show. Like who freaking cares about his thoughts on the show years later, ask the dude about the books.

For the longest I thought he would get both books out somewhere between 2019-2029. Still think he'll get WoW out within the next few years, but I think he'll be a goner before book 7. I mean he's definitely going to die

I think when you are in the position that GRRM is in, criticism isn't the worst thing you face; it's indifference. I distinctly remember reading ADWD when I first moved to Houston in 2011. With each passing year, I would get frustrated that the next book wasn't coming out. Now, like most others, I don't care anymore. Hell, I've gotten married and had 3 kids since the last book. So much time has passed that George has completely disregarded his audience. I guess when you are close to the end of your life, who cares.

Like most of y’all have said I’m grateful to George for getting me into fantasy but now that the door is open there’s so much out there that is as good if not better. Done Wheel of Time, Gent Bastards, most of the Cosmere, and half of The Expanse over the past couple of years and got plenty on the wish list (doing King Killer Chronicles on Name of The Wind right now even though I know that dude is as bad as George).

O wow, poor guy. It must be really tough for him to get a couple questions about a book people have been waiting on for 84 years and you've said you would be done with by now. In 2020 he said that if he wasnt done with it by some Con in New Zealand (? maybe) in 2021 that people could lock him in a cabin and not let him out until he's done. But I guess he forgot that and is probably more focused on the new show now.

It’s not the pain of not getting it, it’s the HOPE being crushed when this thread resurfaces.

I thought the Dunk and Egg TV show was abandoned. Nice. Now lock yourself in the damn cabin, George!!!

A quarantined world In 2020 should’ve been the perfect catalyst to finish WoW
