The league won’t need pads or helmets in 5 years at this pace

Should be easy for kicker to get his own onside kick

Have to declare onside attempts now. Lame.

This is better than no returns at all but worse than kicking off from the 30 before legislating the wedge out of kickoff returns.

So not allowed to surprise onside anymore, I guess?

sooooo no onside kicks??

No surprise onside kicks. You can do one if you notify the refs and the other team

Trindon Holliday would've made HOF if this rule existed in his playing days.

They're banning tackling too. NFL is going to be lit.

They play flag football now for the pro bowl as preparations for the future of the NFL.

Sounds a lot more entertaining. Current format is a huge waste of everyone's time.

I will be interested to see if this creates more long return opportunities.

Current kickoff rule sucks, so let's replace it with something gay.

Just leave the game alone or start a new sport. Football is no longer what it was. Afraid of injury suits? Make 'em sign waivers. They get paid a ton.

This will result on more return TD's. Somehow people just love the grand tradition of nothing but touchbacks the last few years.

If they hadn’t made this change the only other option was to just place the ball at the 25 and start the game. Nothing but touchbacks was horrible

I don't think this is that bad honestly, not really a significant change

Yes. It doesn't really bother me though with the size, speed and athleticism of athletes these days something had to give. It's still a decent football play.

Stupid, do not like it. Stick with tradition.

Tradition means 17% of annual concussions are on special team plays. Sure special teams account for about 20% of plays in a game but more than half of those are touchbacks or OB kicks so special team plays with actual contact only account for about 10% of all plays in a game. So the number of concussions during returned kicks are about double the rate of a normal play. That is a lot of extra brain damage to keep you happy.

^^^wants them to play an extremely violent game but have no consequences.

So how does an onside kick work now?
user avatar
LSU_Legz21 months
have to declare and tell refs and other team that you are going to attempt one.
user avatar

Interesting so the old strategy of “surprising’ an opponent with an onside kick is done. While it didn’t happen often it was always something that had to be accounted for by the receiving team.
