Except that you don’t do what a Left Tackle does. Rarely if ever are you asked to go one on one with a team’s best edge rusher. Usually you are double teaming or chipping. And you almost never go against CB 1. At best, you go against a nickel, who you can physically throw around, a safety, who may be your best match up but you can still likely throw around, or a linebacker, who you can more often than not run by or use good route running to get open. At least if you’re worth a damn. Special TEs are hard to come by. Usually they aren’t able to do all the things they do as well as any of the other guys on the team. They are a bit like utility knives. But when you find a special TE, you take care of them. It’s why Kyle Pitts was just selected in the top 10 draft picks.

So you take care of Pitts by giving him just 1 million more. The WR and LT are still getting 7 million more. I don't know the context of why Olsen said what he did but he could easily be making the case that Pitts should get money like a WR or LT.

Nevermind, I see Pitts got more than Chase and Smith.

None of them are worth anywhere near what they get paid imo, but good on them if they can get it.

You can always 'choose' to go to 11 years of advanced study, earn your M.D. stripes, sometimes working 60 hours a week and make $900,000 annually....#GROWUP

An elite TE is worth that, but most TE's aren't even worth 2MM. LOL

Greg, that’s the market, bro.

I understand a little but the TE is not battling the other teams best rusher solo and the TE is usually running Routes against a LB or Safety. Not a shutdown corner.

Except he's wrong. Most tight ends do one or the other and not as well as the positions he lists. Of those that can do both, they are generally running routes against LBs and Safetys, not CBs.

This was my thought exactly. If they do both they are rarely going against the other teams best pass rusher or their best corner.

Discrimination no doubt! TELM = Tight Ends Lives Matter as well. It must be really tough only making $7-mil a year, LMAO. Speak to your agent and etc. and do something about it.

Tight ends across the country should go block traffic on the interstate in protest

If NFL owners and coaches felt the same way as Greg, they would pay tight ends more. After the hundreds of millions invested, owners are not going to let $8 million keep them from winning. You can run an offense without a tight end. Try doing that without a left tackle. As your $25 million quarterback what he thinks about that idea.

there are probably a lot of tight ends who wish they made $4m.

I feel his point

Complain to the players association. He is right, but the TEs do have some recourse here.

As said before, I don't feel bad for a dude to play football and make millions, but I see what he's saying.

I wish I could bitch about getting paid 7 million dollars.

If you did the same thing as two sets of co-workers who make twice as much as you then you would complain, too.

I don’t feel bad, but I understand his point.
