Missouri Coach Eli Drinkwitz Slams College Football Playoff Selection Committee

After the Playoff selection committee released its first CFP rankings of 2025-26 on Tuesday night, Missouri’s Eli Drinkwitz was asked by reporters if he sees the new metric being put into effect in the initial list of teams...

“The top two teams’ schedule rankings and strength of schedule is in the mid-30s,” Drinkwitz pointed out, referring to Ohio State and Indiana. “[Texas] A&M is in the top five. They were ranked [No.] 3. So I don’t know what’s changed.”

“I don’t think [the eye test] matters,” he added. “Every coach has a different taste in what they’re looking for on film. Some guys are defensive coaches, they’re going to evaluate defensive strengths. Some guys are offensive coaches, they’re going to evaluate offensive strengths. Some people don’t like other people. Some people rank their conference better than others. Some people think that because they played in this conference it’s going to be different.”

He is 100% correct. The BCS computer system was the best they have had. Was it perfect?, no of course not but it was as close as they will ever get. It took human biases out of it and that is why the media hated it because they couldn't manipulate the system.

He is whining about the nothing, the committee basically took the BCS model for the top 12. The BCS model would have all of the same teams, in the same rankings, with the exception being Oregon #7 instead of #9

Their top 12 is the exact same as the BCS computers except with Oregon #7 instead of #9

Beyond the top 12, their rankings differ quite a bit from the BCS. The committee seems to like the Big 12 more than the computers do (i.e. BYU/TTU ahead of Oregon, they have Utah #13, in BCS Utah is #16)

The only other real difference is the BCS would have Memphis at #23, who the committee does not have ranked (and instead has Pitt ranked)

These auto conference champ qualifiers is what will always bug me. Memphis and the ACC champ have NO BUSINESS in a playoff of any kind. The ACC is always gonna be a big POS and the G5 rep has no chance. I also agree about the schedules/. Indiana's last year was a freakin joke.

I get you, but even if the AFC South Division winner has a losing record, it's still getting a playoff slot over a 10-7 team that missed the wild card.

So in this instance, if all things hold constant to the SEC Championship game, Texas A&M would play Bama. Seems like the loser of that game becomes the actual winner as they'd get bumped to say 8th or 9th.

You can bet your last dollar they will rank SEC teams in the CFP with numbers that force the SEC teams to play one another.

They do not want another Final with two SEC Teams, especially this early in the new format.

Top 4 get bye weeks and then the #1 gets the highest possible rank the following week. So #8 and #9 plays so the lowest opponent they can get is #8. #2 lowest is 7, #3 is 6, and #4 is 5.

Exactly, and because of human selection, they rank teams in specific places for that reason, to eliminate all SEC title Games. That’s happened twice recently, in the SEC. It’s a sham

Can you read? He isn't arguing who should and should not get in. He is stating that A&M should be ranked above OSU and Indiana since they are all undefeated, and A&M has a much tougher schedule. It is still a broken system.
