LSU quarterback Walker Howard sent out the following goodbye message on social media as he gets ready to transfer to another school.
quote:

AS A KID, I ALWAYS DREAMED OF PLAYING AT LSU.

I NEVER IMAGINED BEING ANYWHERE ELSE.

HOWEVER, WHEN THINGS HAPPEN IN LIFE, WE HAVE TO ADJUST AND KEEP MOVING FORWARD.

WITH THAT BEING SAID, I HAVE MADE THE DECISION TO LEAVE LSU TO LOOK FOR THE BEST SPOT FOR ME TO GROW. THIS WAS A VERY DIFFICULT DECISION FOR ME AND MY FAMILY. CAN'T EXPLAIN HOW THANKFUL I AM FOR ALL OF THE RELATIONSHIPS I HAVE BUILT AT LSU.

I WANT TO THANK COACH KELLY AND HIS STAFF FOR WELCOMING ME WITH OPEN ARMS AND FOR ALWAYS HAVING MY BACK. I AM SAD TO LEAVE MY BEST FRIENDS AND TEAMMATES, BUT I KNOW THAT WE WILL FOREVER BE FRIENDS.

THANK YOU AGAIN LSU. #GEAUXTIGERS
Howard officially entered the transfer portal last week and will likely be announcing his next school soon.

Howard, a former five-star prospect from St. Thomas More High School in Lafayette, La., appeared in two games this season with just four pass attempts. He is the son of former LSU quarterback Jamie Howard.

Give up on your lifelong dream after one year? Wow.

Not even one year. Last year was a redshirt. This would have been his first one to play.

Yeah that is terrible. If it was truly his dream he would have stuck it out. Sad.

Here's the problem with these kids that just decide to transfer out. They write these long letters about how much they love LSU and how thankful they are for LSU, expecting us to say "Go get em Tiger".... They expect us to remain loyal to them and root them on.... But these guys are no longer Tigers, they are tiger bait. whether they were scare of competition, or just didnt like the food in the cafeteria, they made the decision to leave... Just leave, we don't need to read your over the top letter to save face. You are Tiger Bait.

Spot on

You are exactly right. IF you QUIT LSU, we don't want to see your bullshite letter trying to save face! If the kid is going to the NFL, that's a different story.

It’s called being a professional. It’s a much better look to do it this way than to just disappear quietly. All these things matter when being interviewed by nfl teams. Whether you like it or not is up to you but this is important for them to do.

You were going to play at LSU, dumbass

And now he gets to lose 3/4 games a year MINIMUM by going to Ole Piss!!

Not to put the kid down but he states “when things happen in life”… what happened? On the outside it just looks like he doesn’t want to compete. Not a good trait for a quarterback.

Makes you appreciate Matt Flynn that much more.

Fellow comes out of high school as a stud. He gets to LSU and realizes every kid on the LSU team was a stud in high school. Some feed off of the competition while others fail to compete.

So him & his pops DEMAND LSU redshirt him his 1st year so he can rehab after knee surgery. Then you QUIT before even attempting to compete? I don't think this kid understands how it works. What SEC caliber program or Head Coach is gonna just hand the QB1 spot to a redshirt freshman with ZERO experience?
user avatar
OldschoolTiger2418 months
They know how it supposed to work, Jamie Howard especially. But they are now allowed by the NCAA to just pack and leave a school after pledging and accepting a scholarship with no consequences. No matter what, this kind of thing is not good for kids. It teaches them that they don't have to stick out a commitment, and they don't have to compete. This will end up ruining a lot of talented players.

You know what he’d have done before the transfer portal? He’d have dug deeper and competed. The transfer portal should be the very last option, but he’s a freshman and hasn’t begun to run out of other options yet. We’ve barely even seen the guy yet, because, well, HE’S A FRESHMAN. Ridiculous is ridiculous.

Frankly, it should be two years at a school before a transfer is even allowed

First of all, Caps Lock is key to you left. Second, you never imagined playing for LSU wouldn't be handed to you. You want to "grow" but not necessarily with any effort. You didn't want to compete and you turned your back on those that do. That's fine. Admit that to yourself as the first step in your desired growth.

Laughable comparing him to Burrow. He stayed and competed 4 years at OSU and then transferred when beat out. Walker leaves after one year lol.

He played on a stack team at STM and had it easy. His name got many doors open for him. He’s not use to being told no. Kelly was going to make him earn it.

We have already seen two of that “stacked team” quit.
Can we say they may be having trouble adjusting to reality?

If he goes to another SEC school I say we recruit the E.D. White defense that picked him off 4 times.

Why say goodbye when you never said hello?

The young man makes a commitment, does not prove himself at all or earn anything, breaks commitment and goes to rival school (allegedly).

I Think this is indicative of a serious character issue that seems to have been fostered in kids in this day and age, the age of entitlement.

It is no wonder why we are in such a crisis in society.

He is a god kid from a good family who wants to play sooner rather than later. There is no need to inaccurately destroy his character over it.

I feel like LSU is one of the biggest programs where a QB can really make a huge difference. QB always a question mark for us and the right guy can get a bigger spotlight here than some other D1 alternatives. I just don’t understand the mentality. Where do you land, Ole Miss? If the goal is to play pro is Ole Miss really a better option? In my opinion, no.

This is what Kirby meant when he spoke of entitlement.
Do not teach this to your kids.
