Unless you have been living under a rock, you have probably seen the rumors that link former LSU and Alabama head coach Nick Saban to the LSU job.

The latest to take notice is LSU legend Shaquille O'Neal. Per CBS Sports:
quote:

LSU's search for a football coach continues to draw national attention and one of the school's most famous faces isn't staying quiet. Shaquille O'Neal, the four-time NBA champion and Basketball Hall of Famer who played for the Tigers from 1989 to 1992, said he heard LSU may be in talks with former coach Nick Saban about a return to Baton Rouge.

"I heard through the grapevine that they were having conversations with Nick Saban," O'Neal told Us Weekly. "That'd be awesome if we can bring Nick back."

Saban, 74, led LSU from 2000-04, capturing a national championship before departing for the NFL. He returned to college football in 2007 at Alabama, building one of the most dominant dynasties with six more national titles before retiring in 2023. This past weekend on ESPN's College GameDay, Saban addressed speculation of a potential return to coaching and emphasized that tradition alone does not guarantee success in modern college football.

LSU could raise their ticket prices drastically if they hired Saban. The demand for tickets would be outrageous.

I guess they could. I hope they don't. It would be a bad move until they prove something.

They probably called him up to see whether he'd pitch in.

I first posted on this site when Saban left LSU on Christmas break. So weird to see this happening two decades later.

When it comes to a detailed evaluation of his opponent, making a game plan, and in-game changes, Nick is the Prince of Freakin' Darkness. And now he's playin an arse clown with a cartoon duck. Please make it stop. 50/50.

Might as well just make Mike the actual tiger the head coach, because I really don't see Saban coming to this mess.

Wow, I thought SABAN was 70? He’s 74? Man, I love his mind and he’s definitely the GOAT, but you need time to develop your own players and program to make it truly his. 74 is way too old to start doing that. I would’ve LOVED him at this University in ANY capacity but I always knew it was a longshot.

Nick knows when to hold up and knows when to fold up. Nick is way too smart to get into this boondoggle.

Yes. Saw some cracks in the armor at the end of the Michigan playoff game. But he probably has enough gas in the tank to get our football program back on track.

Maybe he can buy us enough time to find a photo of Lane lovin' on his stump-broke goat.

Shaq’s “heard through the grapevine”. Yea, ok. Someone as connected as him would KNOW if it’s going to be Saban I would think. So Sabans been contacted, offered, it’s on the table, etc. when he doesn’t go back to LSU I want wall LSU fans to say we threw our best at him and he said no. Not, this was for entertainment, oh, we were just having fun. No, he turned u down because he doesn’t have some affinity for LSU or this undying love or this place he’d like to call home back. His home is in Tuscaloosa. He still lives there and is employed by the university he spent almost 20 years at. He could have had the LSU job several times over and didn’t leave.
