LSU's starting defensive back, Sage Ryan, has entered the NCAA transfer portal, according to a report from Lonn Phillips.

Ryan confirmed the news with a message on social media.

The former five-star prospect from Lafayette, La., was initially recruited as a safety but played all over the secondary for LSU, eventually settling into the cornerback position at the back end of this season.

He registered 35 tackles, 4.5 tackles for a loss, and three pass breakups this season.

If Ryan departs the program, he will be the ninth player to enter the transfer portal this offseason. He is the only one out of the group who played significant starting snaps this year.

This means House is staying. There will be more from the LB position to go.

Guess the evaluation and feedback wasn’t good.

Look i am not panicked but i hope kelly has plan because if we keep losing bodies on the worst LSU defense ever its not good. Not saying we need to be great overnight but we can't expect a complete overhaul in one season.

Bro. Read your own comment. Maybe we don’t want the majority of the bodies from the worst defense in school history. Not hating on Sage per se but losing guys from this defense is not what you think it is.

BEST OF LUCK YOUNG MAN.

Honestly this is what the portal is for. He was a 5 star who has been pedestrian or worse here. He is betting on himself, getting a change of scenery, and seeing if he can grow with a different DB coach in a different system.

Best of luck! I hope he succeeds!

Maybe this is his warning to Kelly. "I'm not playing another year under House. He goes or I go."

Bye then. Dude was terrible. He’s been a bust before House. Some of yall really don’t get it and it’s scary.

Wishful thinking. I'd gladly sacrifice Sage TO GET RID OF HOUSE

The defensive lineup and status of defensive coaches are rapidly becoming big questions for next year. But thats what the 10 million salary is supposed to solve.

Will be interesting to see where he winds up. His talent is not the problem.

I dont think the criticism is fair. He is not being developed to stop making mistakes so that has to be on the coaching. He has enough athleticism to move from S to CB and do a passable job so, other than possibly attitude, he should be considered as a loss of talent

Nah. He was in the same class as Major Burns. Burn’s isn’t elite but he’s certainly developed into a decent starter over his time here.

Maybe, but he was pretty much guaranteed PT. Nelly said it, " Must be the $$$"

LSU had 34 missed tackles vs ole miss. Guarantee sage didn't miss em all. This team needs coaches PERIOD. Also these kids don't rank themselves but sage and emery Jr could've left long ago but stuck it out through covid and regime change. I respect that at least they didn't quit.

This kid has been given more unfair bullshite than anyone else since Damone Clark. He got a scholarship the same year as Mathew Langlois. But he's a shitty prospect and overrated but Mathew is still "developing". This kid was treated unfairly by this fan base because of internet rankings. I wish him success and I hope he kills it in the nfl and makes some of our fans look like assholes like Trey Palmer did

I don't have any sympathy for missed tackles. Just wrap up. It's correctable with a little effort, but he never fixed it. Rankings have nothing to do with it. A 3 star is expected to make tackles

If you’re a five star and you take three years to become a non-impactful rotational player, people are going to label you overrated no matter who you are. That’s just reality. Sage isn’t being treated any differently than any other 5* player with the same trajectory.

And I’ll add, those internet ratings are getting these kids paid now, so nobody is going to feel bad when that measuring stick turns out to be too high.
