WGNO TV reporter Ed Daniels is reporting that former LSU DL coach Pete Jenkins has been added to the LSU Football staff. This will be Jenkins' fourth stint as an LSU assistant coach. Jenkins first worked as an assistant at LSU for 11 years ending in 1990. He returned to coach for Nick Saban for the 2000-2001 seasons, and then for Ed Orgeron for the 2016-2017 seasons.

LSU has been without a full-time defensive line coach since the beginning of preseason camp when Jimmy Lindsey took a leave of absence to deal with medical issues.

I’ll say this
I know Coach Pete from my coaching career
I’ve coached many guys that have signed D-1 scholarships & NFL draftees, played with many more at
My old school. Doesn’t make me the end all opinion of course.

But Coach Pete on your staff and Team is always a good thing to happen whatever the reason.

So all of you sceptics, just breathe, Coach Pete still has fuel in the tank!!!! He’s the real deal HOF’er & IMO GOAT of the DL-Line Coaching Tree

These players love the fact & are inspired with Coach on their arse coaching angles, technique & mindset of a winner!

On Maason Smith: his play has been bad, for whatever reason; injury, lack of want, idk.

So we need to find out what the equivalency of a 3rd round pick is in NIL $$ and get him that for next year. He needs to come back and redeem himself here before trying the NFL.

Called this in August and was significantly downvoted. Clowns.

I was downvoted yesterday as well. We are a major SEC D1 program that aspires to consistently compete for SEC and National Championships and the 10 Million dollar-a-year HC goes into a season without a full-time defensive line coach. Insane and stupid.

Great call man!

Remember also we don't have a Special Teams coach either. I haven't analyzed the ST, but of course they haven't been as bad as last year, but I ain't too keen on this "it takes a village" leftist commie shitcrap applied to coaching.

(It doesn't take a village to raise a child, it takes two loving parents who give a shite.)

"LSU has been without a full-time defensive line coach since the beginning of preseason camp when Jimmy Lindsey took a leave of absence to deal with medical issues."

This is what is so stupid. An LSU defensive line without a full time defensive line coach. This should have been taken care of the day after Lindsey had to step away. This isn't 7 on 7 highschool football.

CBK should have volunteered some of his $$$ to get a real dLine coach. I guess money was more important to him. Ridiculous stupidity

Doesn't matter. It's scheme and House is stubborn.
user avatar
Hot Carl12 months
It shouldn’t have to matter, but it will. House has sucked, no doubt, but his scheme works much better if the DL does SOMETHING. And right now they have no idea what they’re doing. Pete’s not gonna be the difference in us winning the NC or not, but all we needed was SOMEBODY to just make ONE play Saturday. A DL to shed ONE block and fill a gap. Maybe he helps guys make a play or 2 a game. And maybe those make a difference. He ain’t keeping our LBs or DBs from missing 30 tackles. But maybe a DL trips somebody up and they don’t have 30 tackles to miss. Whatever. Can’t hurt.

I’m sure that was Kelly’s idea to bring him back. Good grief. Who is running the show over there?

Also…. Is he working with DBs? They are the ones that got torched.

Maason will probably benefit more than anybody from Pete being out there. He’s currently being coached by somebody who doesn’t know how to coach DL. He probably was never gonna be as good as he was hyped up to have been. But he’s also had some terrible luck with injuries and rotating DL coaches. He’s not gonna be a top 10 pick, but he’s not as bad as he looks right now either.

To the “he’s still hurt” reply that’s gotten so many downvotes, I think you’re right. But it may not be his knee as much as it may be his ankle. I think that injury was worse than was let on. Combine that with him coming off the knee injury (even if the knee is fully healed, there’s no way he’s 100% strength-wise. He already has a unique body type that makes him appear “top heavy.” One thing we don’t consider about recovering from knee injuries for DL/OL is that they can’t get under 500+ pounds in squat rack for most of that recovery. His knee may be “fine,” but there’s no way he’s as strong and explosive as he would have been if he’d been able to work out normally. Add the injuries to poor technique and unrealistic expectations and here we are. He’s playing poorly, but not really his fault. I think he would really benefit by coming back for his SR. year, draft-wise. But he may be too scared of another injury to gamble on it. With as “bad” as we think he’s been relative to expectations, he’s still got the measureables to be a top 3 round pick, even with little production.

The ‘24 recruiting class is basically done save for hopefully a big flip or 2. BK is gonna have to focus a lot of his efforts on not just the top portal guys (obviously), but on re-recruiting our own guys to come back. I know he wants to field “old” teams, especially on the lines. Wingo’s gone. Can he convince most of the rest to stay? We’ll see.

This past off season he consulted for Bama, UGA, Oregon, OU, LSU and USC. But hey, if he's good enough to consult for UGA and Bama, I guess it's a clown show to bring him on as an analyst. You imbecile.
user avatar
Hot Carl12 months
It’s not a “clown world.” As Canebreak mentioned, he’s still valued enough to be brought in by big schools who already have good defenses and legit DL coaches. However, I think a valid criticism is, if he’s been available and you know we have a DL coach coaching out of position, why did it take losing 2 games to bring him in? All these issues have been evident all year. They certainly were after the Arkansas game whose terrible OL manhandled our DL—in Tiger Stadium, when they were at a huge disadvantage with communication issues. After watching how they handled our DL just a week after BYU’s DL abused them—at Arkansas—why didn’t BK call Pete the night after the Arkansas game? Maybe he did. Maybe he’s been trying to get him all year and Pete just preferred to stay retired until he saw just how desperate we were. I’d love to know how that whole process went down, but I doubt we ever will. At least not for a while.

Acting like a DLine coach and being one are 2 different things. See, Special teams coach (BK's friend) last year although this year hasn't improved that much but we've only muffed 1 so far

If the quarterback has forever to throw the ball, every secondary will get exposed. DL is obviously an issue
