LSU starting quarterback Max Johnson announced Tuesday night that he is entering his name into the NCAA transfer portal.

Johnson, a sophomore from Athens, Georgia, started in every game for the Tigers this season, passing for 2,815 yards, 27 touchdowns, and six interceptions.

With Johnson transferring, LSU has a huge question mark at the quarterback position for the Texas Bowl. Either true freshman Garrett Nussmeier will have to burn his redshirt or we might see a walk-on play vs. Kansas State.

As for the quarterback room next year, elite five-star passer Walker Howard is currently committed to the Tigers and fully onboard with new head coach Brian Kelly.

He should have transferred before the Alabama game. Had more than than 12 chances in the red zone and he couldn't make one play to win the game.

Starting QB, has the inside track to be the starter next year, and he transfers? Before the bowl game?? What a twat.

I’m not privy to all of the information but from an outsider, it looks like a very douche move. Couldn’t play one more game?

Probably wants to get on a team before NSD so he's a priority, not an afterthought

BK is cleaning house. Coaches, players, strength and conditioning, whoever. This is the way you change a culture. The players & recruits who want to be part of LSU and rebuilding will be here. If not, they will be culled out or encouraged to go. Bye Max.

Good luck Max. Wish you well, but if your teammates were that important to you, you would have played in the bowl game and saved Nuss' redshirt.

Is this true???? WTF.

This is the biggest issue. Could have something to do with his brother wanting to sign early someplace, perhaps? This comes a little close to bridge burning, if that’s not the case….

Let them all leave and decommit. Would rather lose next year and get the people LSU needs to have in place that want to be at LSU going forward. Dont let the door hit you in the arse on the way out!

Would rather lose next year —that would mean 3 bad seasons in a row? You’d be ok with that?

If there is a God, he transfers to Auburn.

What a dick move. They gave Max everything and he screws them with one game left. Seems like a spoiled brat. Hopefully this means Brennan comes back.

Put the Frank Wilson hire back as the headline.

Max played hard and did the best he could……BUT in reality he might be a 6 out of 10….and if the goal is another NC I don’t think Max would be the guy to take LSU there. Good luck Max and thanks for being a Tiger.

I have no issue with Max. He did his best. I so however question his line about his teammates, knowing he is walking away knowing that if he just stayed a week or two more it wouldn't have such a negative impact.

We all had high hopes for him and he started off great. I don’t think he ever adjusted to the speed of the SEC.

I agree the game was too fast for him in the SEC. Ithink alot of the young players don't realize they you are going to be facing quite a few first and Second round NFL picks. If he can't make it here he won't make it in the NFL. I think if his dad stays out of his ear he can develop into a good QB. His best out is to go to a group of five or lower school where the game is a little slower and he has less to process.

Was probably told he would have to earn the QB1 job next season and typical of kids these days he took his ball and left. He wants the easy way

I believe this is true. Probably went to Coach Kelly and asked for him to commit to him being the starter next year and he refused to do that. Kinda sucks now that we let TJ walk out the door to be stabbed in the back a few months later. I hope he gets what he deserves.

The transfer portal has to go. The way it works is going to ruin the college game.

But is what’s best for the players.

Well I am glad that we had a transfer portal in the late 2010s. It benefits teams as much as it hurts them generally.

Now it’s “sold to the highest bidder”.

What a pu$$y move! How about let your brother sign with a school and then join him after the season is over? You’d think Daddy Brad would have made him finish the season.
