Ole Miss head coach Pete Golding is expecting a wild atmosphere in Oxford on Saturday when Lane Kiffin returns to Vaught-Hemingway Stadium as LSU's head coach.

But with emotions expected to be high surrounding Kiffin's return, Golding had a message for Rebel fans during his Monday press conference.

Golding encouraged fans to be early, loud, and make things difficult for LSU, but also stressed that they shouldn't lose the respect and hospitality that Oxford has become known for.

“There’s a competitive part of everybody, right, that obviously we’re going to create a really, really good environment, like they always have, for a top-10 matchup,” Golding said.

“But I think at the end of it, there’s still a respect piece, and this place has always been known to have really, really good people.

“And so let’s not lose that over a game, over a person, or anything else like that.”

Golding added that there's nothing wrong with fans getting caught up in the moment and creating a hostile environment for LSU, as long as they don't cross that line.

“Be an unbelievable fan and provide an unbelievable atmosphere for our players and really hard to play in for their players,” Golding said. “But at the end of the day, don’t lose what we’ve created and what they’ve created for so long.”

Saturday will mark Kiffin's first trip back to Oxford since leaving Ole Miss for LSU.

Lies. Only place I went as part of TGBFTL where fans were actually spitting on us after the halftime show when we were heading back to out seats. They havent ever had any sort of respect.

Remember last year. That older Baw had to beat the hell out of that young hillbilly at the baseball game.

Florida has always been the worst fan base in my personal experience and it’s not even close. But to try to act like Ole Miss has class is laughable.

I have heard this from many fans across the SEC........Florida 'lizards' is a well earned name for them.

Our fan base certainly isn’t made up of angels when it comes to heated conference rivalries.

Worst fan experience of my life last year. “Why did KL kill himself” “Does BK have guilt for murder”. 8 year olds giving me the finger as parents laughed…

shite fan base

“The hospitality that Oxford is known for.”

These people really just don’t hear themselves. Straight up delusional. I’ve been to Oxford twice. Shittiest, rudest fanbase in the SEC. And that was before Kiffin.

Decades ago young wife and I horribly harassed after LSU lost on a controversial no call at the end of game. Couldn’t get out of there fast enough…

I know alcohol plays a big part in these types of things but I just can't understand why someone would want to seek out violence and fight people simple because they're fans of another school - team. That includes LSU fans. It's the epitome of a loser mentality, stupidity, insecurity and a very very small penis.

Agree 100%!!!

It's almost a proven fact that people who call other men "small penis". Do in fact have small penis syndrome.

That was a silly thing to add. He was doing good until that. As if it has anything to do with it.

Been there every time the Tigers have come to Oxford over the past 20 years, typically by myself and never had a problem…but I don’t act like an arse.

This year is definitely different, though. Pete did a good job of trying to avoid trouble.

I agree. I just hope both fan bases remember this is just a football game. Yes, it is a big game for both teams, but try to “act” like adults people! May the best team win!

What was so bad about his talk there? Better than that coach for Tenn who needs Ozempic thrown at him when LSU plays Tenn. Heupel was inciting violence Pete is saying just be classy.
user avatar
How you speak and what you say aren't the same. I think that's his point.

Actually a really mature answer. I don't think these coaches feel the same animosity to each other as the fans do.

Heck had holding been offered the LsU HC job you know he'd have taken it as well

Root like Hell for your team- but don't reduce yourself to a drunken moron trying to ruin the experience for someone else. That's easy to avoid. Know when to back off the throttle.

I’ve never been cursed out and harassed by a group of fans like my experience with Ole Miss fans, and that was in Tiger Stadium. We just got to our seats and the problems started.

I’ve had great experiences and interactions at Auburn and Alabama with their fans.

None of what he said matters. The hate and actions will be over the top. I've been a guest of Rebel fans in the Grove and they were polite but not overly gracious. Outside of the Grove many OM fans are rude asshats.
