Talented five-star incoming freshman defensive tackle Tyler Shelvin has dropped from 383 pounds to 325 by following Ed Orgeron's diet of gumbo with no rice, a suggestion that Coach O gave to his Grandma. Per The Advocate:
quote:

“I told his grandma to start feeding him gumbo with no rice,” the LSU coach said Monday. “He called me (and) said, ‘Coach, you’re killing me. I need more rice!’ ”

Shelvin, the Tigers’ decorated 2017 recruit who’s expected to enroll with other signees in June, lost about 60 pounds, Orgeron said. The highly rated defensive tackle from Lafayette is down to 325 pounds, the coach said, after getting up to about 383.

Must be Yankees down voting boiled eggs in Gumbo and potato salad(warm) instead of rice. Oh well, some people always miss out on the finer things in life!

Gumbo over potato salad with boiled eggs in the gumbo is awesome! That's the Cajun way. But not good for losing weight. Push away from the table after one bowl. That's the way to lose weight!

All gumbo, no rice, sounds like a recipe for getting the flyin' whodunnits, which I guess could help to lose some weight.

He will be playing this year at that weight. Once he gets in for fall practice he will shed even more. We deep at the tackle spot.

Politics aside, you do realize that he didn't make all-district, and wasn't even the best DL on his 2A team right? No motor. Kid's got a long way to go. Don't misunderstand me, a local kid at LSU - I'm definitely pulling for him.

lol he's obviously got to be eating more foods than just gumbo. Sounds like more of a running joke and that he is eating a lean diet across the board.

I never use rice. Put it over potatoe salad. But I doubt that helps with weight loss.
