Former LSU defensive lineman Barkevious Mingo was released by the Atlanta Falcons on Saturday after he was arrested in Texas on a charge of indecency with a child-sexual contact. Per ESPN:

Arlington police said that Mingo was arrested Thursday on the second-degree felony charge, which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison under Texas state law. According to the state penal code, the charge relates to engaging in sexual contact with someone younger than 17 years of age or causing the child to engage in sexual contact.

Arlington Police said in a statement that the agency could provide no further information about the investigation, citing "the nature of the charges and age of the victim.'' Police said Mingo turned himself in.

"After being made aware today of allegations involving Barkevious Mingo and gathering information on the matter, the Atlanta Falcons have terminated his contract," the team said in a statement late Saturday night.

Mingo's attorney, Lukas Garcia, called the allegations "completely baseless" in a statement given to multiple outlets.

"At this stage, our side has very limited information," Garcia said. "What we do know is these allegations are from over two years ago and are completely untrue. Mr. Mingo is the victim of a false claim, and we believe this is motivated by money or some other ulterior motive."
Mingo, a native of Monroe, LA, played at LSU from 2010-2013 and was drafted No. 6 overall by the Cleveland Browns in 2013. He has played for seven NFL teams and won a Super Bowl with the New England Patriots in 2016.

In almost every case like this, it’s one person’s word against another, so there’s no way to prove anything either way. They’ll just have to present their sides and let a jury decide. Whether convicted or acquitted, we will probably never know for sure what the actual truth is. I feel terrible for the child if the allegations are true and terrible for Mingo if they are false.

Ask Bill Clinton about how Lewinsky got his DNA. If there is DNA on that kid's clothes, there is not much of a he said/he said argument for Mingo.

According to the document, “The victim was then woken by [Mingo] pulling at his underwear. This occurred for a few minutes until the suspect got more and aggressive and pulled the victim’s underwear down to his shins. The victim advised that when this was occurring, he was scared and pretended to be asleep. [Mingo] put a lotion on that made the victim’s skin burn and … rubbed his penis up and down, in between the victim’s butt crack.” Sickening! He deserves a loooooooong sentence.

If that's true, they should just shoot him.

Where did you get this story from mister? Please don’t tell me it came from the [sic catalogue] which you call a mind.

Who knows if he is guilty or not, but all it takes is for an angry baby-mama to make up a fake story and pressure their child to lie. Unfortunately, it’s not uncommon, but of course, so is child sexual abuse.

I guarantee if this guy played for Bama your sentiments would be much different

His employment was terminated by the Falcons after their team of lawyers reviewed evidence not yet released to the GP. He may buy his way out of trouble, but his NFL days are likely done.

If he can help the moral-less NFL win a game they could care less. Don’t believe for a second the NFL teams have any conscious.

These days, my first instinct is to always believe any such allegations are false. If so, I hope he's able to prove it. Many cannot.

And herein lies the problem with today’s mob, you should not have to prove innocence but that’s where this country has gone. Guilty by accusation, no evidence needed. Now prove you didn’t do it.

Why can't they just be normal decent people? I hope it is all a misunderstanding.

This is no "misunderstanding". Either he's lying, or she is. But the degree of assumed guilt amongst posters here is breathtaking. A guy is targeted by wild accusation on something which allegedly occurred two years ago ... he must be guilty. Right? #BelieveHer. Right? #MenAreRapists/#WomenNeverLie. ...... Sorry, not for me. I'll hold judgement and hear the facts first, both sides.

“ Either he's lying, or she is.”….. there’s no “she.”. it’s two guys.

What if this turns out to be an extortion play? What if he is actually innocent of the charge? The Duke LaCrosse team was also guilty. Until they weren't. What if there is a trial and 12 jurers find him innocent of the charges? I guess in this case it's guilty until proven innocent not the other way around.

Innocent until proven guilty is what you say. Anyone can say anything or accuse anyone of anything.

Yeah but trouble is this cannot be unseen and even if found not guilty his career (maybe even life) is over now baw

Classic "grooming" by taking him to do fun activities all day and then going on a shopping spree before trying to take advantage later that night. Shameful.

This is why we have juries. Let it play out in court.
user avatar

of course, but that takes years. No one is saying to toss him in jail w/o due process, but we can comment based on what we know now. And the Atlanta Falcons can act, too. And they did when they released him. They don't have to wait.

His career is over. He is accused of doing Michael Jackson stuff. Even if he beats it in court he will never be accepted in another NFL locker room again.

I mean if he starts beating it in court I don’t think the judge will have much of a choice

I was at LSU from 2011-2016 and heard from many people that work student workers from the LSU team that Mingo batted from both sides of the plate.
