Former LSU offensive coordinator Matt Canada will receive a $1.7 million dollar buyout. Per NOLA.com:
quote:

In an release from the school amended sometime Saturday, the school said it will give Canada $1 million before Jan. 31, and he will receive another $700,000 in 20 equal monthly installments before the end of each subsequent month.

The original release from the school did not include those buyout terms.

The $1.7 million is slightly more than half of the $3.25 million he was due to earn through the end of his contract after the 2019 season.

I am an Lsu fan but going through the rant. Some of y'all are crazy. I wonder if CLM never went to lsu and Lsu was not as successful, would y'all still be so crazy and spoiled. I don't think so. Be careful fans we might end up with a stretch like Texas or Miami.

Nice payout for getting canned. O needs to take this taken out of his salary!

The whole Aranda deal is a Coach O back up plan by the university. I hope Coach O gets it done but if he doesn't he knows his fate as they all do. The big payout for Aranda is if Coach O doesn't make it they will slide him in...You saw all these teams this year fire their coaches and then crapped themselves trying to find a good replacement. We are not the most attractive place for a GOOD coach as we think we are...Coach O was about the boards 4th choice..He did not think he was getting it....It shocked him also....Everyone said Jimbo will never Leave Fla St he was just using us as leverage..BS..we see what happened this year...He wouldn't come to LSU but he went to TAMU ??? Are we worse than them...Promote our team, Promote our Coaches, Promote our University...Brag of our game hospitality (tailgating) Promote our great people of south Louisiana and watch the recruits come in....Its about great players.....average coaches win also with great players.....

With all due respect, allsports, I think you have that last line backwards, great coaches can win with average players, and turn average players into great ones. See UCF this year, and from past years, Baylor, TCU, Northwestern---all dormats until a great coach came along.

With the $1.7 million, we could’ve hired an actual head coach.

Idk why you re all tripping. We’re the same team but for a likely top-10 recruiting class and an unfortunate OC departure. Sometimes coworkers find out they can’t work together, and then boss isn’t the one who’s going to leave. Go get a homerun OC hire (Briles is gone, though), and we’ll be more than fine.

Would anyone be surprised if a few BOS's told Aranda to hang on because he would be the favorite for head coach if he did? Otherwise, I can't see why this intelligent man would endure the nonsense that is called LSU football.

The only nonsense is the deranged fan base that hates O no matter what he does.

Lexman,I totally agree with you. I think if you look at the name of this site it's a perfect match. Tiger Droppings? Yes it is the crappy down side of our fan base. They all hate the coach and run the staff down, attack the players....They do not realize how bad this site is for recruiting...Social media is a big part of recruiting...I see posts every day from so called fans that they want Coach O to fail...WHY? If he does it will set the program back 5 or more years...As a fan we should pull for them all to succeed..Isn't that what we want? It's crazy..At the end of the day it's getting the right kids...Before Dabo got Deshaun Watson was he considered the elite of coaching...hell no...You want to be great? Get great players and it starts with a QB.

Absolutely 100% spot on allsports34. Of course, you'll get the standard refrain from the knuckle-dragging mouth-breathers that have nothing else to do with their life but rack up 30,000+ posts on a college football fan site: "But but but... that's why it's called The Rant" and "Sorry if you're content with mediocrity, you're obviously not a real fan," and of course the retarded, inevitable designation of being a "sunshine pumper" or "negatiger." But if you honestly take a look at the type of content that gets posted by the admins... cell phone videos of fans fighting in the stands, incessant adulation of 15yr old "recruits" three years away from making any kind of legitimate commitment to a school, self-absorbed celebrity whores, and generally the lowest common denominator reflection of our society, then this is the kind of readership your web site attracts and promotes. I absolutely believe this site does more harm than good, by most any metric. And if people don't think high school kids spend a good chunk of time with their faces glued to their phones, checking out what's being said about them on their ridiculous weekly list of "Top 10" schools, then you've basically confirmed everything I already know about the average TD user. If this site isn't going to be moderated more selectively, it really needs to go away. By and large, it's a dumpster fire of pathetic "fans" desperate to prove to each other how right they are in their condemnation of pretty much everything LSU.

Thanks, allsports34 and Rymeaux. Glad to hear from positive fans. I truly believe the negative comments are from mostly trolls. No true Tiger fans would repeatedly bash our coaches and players knowing that recruits are reading this. Hell, it wouldn’t surprise me if Saban is behind it all. But usually when someone makes a positive statement about the program, it usually gets a lot of upvotes, leading me to believe there are a lot more of us than there are of them! Geaux Tigers!

Respect your opinion Mdomingue, but I disagree. If we get no one else, this is a great class. I guess it’s not a sexy class, because it’s O-line and D-line (the big uglies), but that’s exactly what we need. Plus, the remaining 3 scholarships are likely to be filled by 5 star players. Maybe 4 stars. Either way, I think this class can contribute right away and that’s the most important part of recruiting, imo.

After seeing this go down then how long can we good coaches. Wade was a great pick, but why would he stay in this program after this fiasco?

What fiasco? Coordinators come and geaux. Co-workers sometimes don’t get along. I really wish the negative comments would stop. It’s making our fan base look like a bunch of cry babies. That’s the fiasco!

He's at the sec office in bama to stop that shiteshow (at least to outsiders), but is failing miserably. Georgia is good, we get them, bama don't.

I want Les gone with the best of them but this administration has proven they are the most incompetent idiots....running this program into the ground.
Reply69 months

Define running into the ground. If 6 SEC wins, a New Years Day bowl game, a top 10 recruiting class( maybe top 5 after NSD), is running into the ground... then I guess that’s it!

LEXMAN1, We only have 3 scholarhips to give and are #12 in yhe 24/7 composite rankings. Meanwhile the 3 teams ahead of us and the 5 teams behind us have more scholarships to give (1 has 4, 1 has 5, 2 have 6, 1 has 7, 3 have 10). We won't be top 10, 12 is even unlikely. Looking like the worst recruiting class in at least 6 years, possibly in over a decade, but I think some of that is needs dictated.

Mdomingue.....it's irrelevant where it's rated....9, 10, 13, 6.....we filled NEEDS in the most important positions.....our lines will be absolutely stacked very soon, especially DL. D ont forget the transfer from Utah (Fahenko(sp?) The other specialty position like corner, wr, etc are a dime a dozen and we will always gave kids there...always Just get a decent OC that will be here for 4 years to coach up these freshman qb's and all will be well.
