ESPN college football analyst David Pollack was on “SEC this Morning” with Peter Burns this week and discussed Kentucky head coach as a viable option for the LSU job.

Burns even brought up Notre Dame's Brian Kelly as another option. Per SDS:
quote:

“Mark Stoops, I don’t think he’d be a hot name at LSU, as far as 1, 2, 3 or 4, but let me ask you Peter Burns, I don’t think you’d be upset if they got him, would you?” said Pollack.

Burns, who is a huge LSU fan, agreed that LSU should look seriously at Stoops.

“I’ve said that for weeks and (Chris) Doering can talk about that. Those 2 names off the list, if you went real big, Brian Kelly at Notre Dame because of the program that he’s built and if you can get those recruits, but my goodness, Mark Stoops and what he has had the time to build under Mitch Barnhart has been fantastic as far as developing talent. I think it would be awesome to see that,” said Burns.
What does everyone think about Mark Stoops in Baton Rouge? Or Brian Kelly?

They're both better than the two complete morons we had before them, and those two morons won championships...so, absolutely!!

Let me get this straight…Pelini yells too much and players are sensitive but people want Brian Kelly. He literally has almost passed out on the sideline yelling at players.

Pelini is a psycho and his defense sucked. When he was a good DC, no one gave a shite how out-of-control he was (is). Them's the breaks.

Kelly used to explode on the sidelines, but he's changed. Either the Notre Dame administration told him to cool it, or his doctor did. But he's clearly calmer (at least on the outside) in recent years.

Stoops is solid. No matter what the mouth-breathers say.

"He made LSU look stupid with a much less talent." Meh, two other teams did that, too (not counting Florida, which always has talent). LSU getting crushed at Kentucky was more about Orgeron than it was about Stoops.

I like Stoops. Wouldn’t be too mad. But I want Riley and/or Aranda.

Everyone know LSU can't get a coach that has a winning record conference as a coach right? If Kentucky lost to LSU this year by 1 point none of you guys would be mentioning his name.

Stoops yea, Kelly no.

Agreed

Stoops wouldn't work at LSU. If they go 9-3, they will want to fire him.

Brian Kelly sucks. Can’t do shite with the talent ND has. Stoops would be a much better hire.

Some of the takes on the LSU job in the sports media are proof that any of us could be commentators. I've not heard very many lucid suggestions. For a program like LSU, coaches like Mike Stoops, Mel Tucker and some others of that ilk have no business being mentioned as candidates right now. Woodward is going big game hunting. I expect a Lincoln Riley or Matt Rhule sort of splash higher out of this athletic Director. Don't believe it? Look at the man's track record throughout his career and you'll see all he does is make big dick hires.

Yep, like Bo Pelini and all those assistant football hires he oversaw this offseason. Woodward is the most overrated AD in the NCAA and has harmed LSU far more than he has helped it.

Stoops would be dead his first year in Louisiana after he got hold on the food options due to an obese heart attack.

I wouldn’t hate that hire. But wouldn’t be my my first choice.

He made LSU look stupid with a much less talent. He has been in a couple of games this year with a much less talented roster and won both. Imagine him with more pure talent and the ability to develop it. That has been LSU's issue for a while, we have had stupid natural talent, but whether or not it actually developed beyond where it was when it got here is up for debate.

It’s the point someone else just made. Is Mark Stoops built for the high pressure jobs like LSU? It’s easy to make hires, recruit at a slow pace, not worry about early exits, early enrollees, not having to battling Bama, Auburn, A&M, Florida and the rest for recruits, not to mention in games every year. LSU is a much much different level of football that I’m not sure people realize. We need someone who is ready for that and would thrive in it. The only time Stoops was remotely involved in that type of program, was in Oklahoma where he had plenty of support and wasn’t the head man with all the pressures. We need someone who’s either been exposed to that, has experienced it as a HC or someone who’s young and ready for it, with tons of support coming with him.

Said it since UCLA, Mark Stoops would crush here. He’s exactly what LSU needs. Fk off with “big name”…get a solid coach.

So glad you're not the AD, numb nuts.

I have been on the positive side for M Stoops for a while but the one thing that bothers me is that he is in a "easy chair" spot where he is and not sure if he wants to get on the razor edge of coaching pressure that is LSU. Both he and Kiffin got bonuses for winning their 6th game this season... If 5 wins is your nuetral threshold then LSU is not the place for them.
user avatar
RightWingTiger30 months
At Ole Miss & Kentucky winning a 6th game isnt quite as easy as it is at the top tier SEC teams. That’s essentially a ‘Bowl Eligible’ bonus & at OM & UK thats hasnt always been a given.
