Florida coach Dan Mullen addressed the media on Monday ahead of Saturday's game vs. LSU and was asked about the hot-seat rumors that surround Ed Orgeron. Here's what he had to say, per SDS:
quote:

“It’s a weekly deal right now as coaches, right,” Mullen said at his Monday press conference. “I think we get to learn that. I’ve known Ed for a long time, I like Ed, great coach. Won a national championship just a couple of years ago there, and you haven’t forgotten how to coach in that time frame.”

Mullen believes it’s a sign of the times.

“I just think in today’s world, with coaching a lot of times, it’s a week to week, your rating as a coach is week to week,” Mullen said. “If not play by play on Saturdays, and then after Saturday, it’s week by week. That’s not him, that’s all of us. You know what I mean, you go to anybody in the SEC and they’ll tell you it’s pretty much you’re either really smart, or really dumb and there’s nowhere in between, and it’s a week to week deal.”

Mullen is a good coordinator. He will get UF to improve IF they start buying recruits like UGA and Bama.

And that’s how it should be! Coaches wanting these high salaries. In return, fans have higher expectations. They aren’t paying u 5+million to win 6 , 7,8,9 games a year

Dan with some wise words. A lot of teams are struggling this year. But the coordinators and culture at LSU right now are beyond awful

He's got nothing of importance to gain by throwing O under the bus, and nothing of significance to lose by being diplomatic.

Every HC in the SEC has a lot to gain by LSU keeping CEO around. The longer he’s at LSU the easier it’ll be for SEC Teams beat them. Just like the longer he’s at LSU the deeper the hole he’s diggin gets. Which means it’ll take longer & be that much harder for the next HC to get LSU back to where they belong: Playing for SEC & CFP Championships yearly!

Why would he want O to stay? He’s 1-3 vs Orgeron at LSU. It doesn’t take any special skill to determine what he is saying is true. Fan bases are fickle.

He's 1 and 2 at Florida and was 1 and 1 at Miss St.

Well it’s because O is cunning should not be construed as intelligent. What SEC HC does NOT want Orgeron at LSU, whaddayasay?????

Mullen can frankly shut the f*ck up. They’re getting no paid 6, 7, 8 million a year. One year can set your very comfortably for life. So yeah, you are held to the absolute highest standard. If you were making 100k like a normal citizen, then no, you’d pulsar be held that accountable. So shut the f*ck up and be grateful that you’re in the position you’re in. Talk about being ungrateful. You should be thanking fans every single day that you’re living the life you live.

Autocorrect: cancel “no” and wouldn’t* not pulsar.

Only 1 team gets to win it all each year. So by your take (highest standard) only 1 coach should retain his job each year.

In fairness to Mullen he was ASKED for his opinion & gave it. It’s not like he’s running around shouting this to reporters w/o being asked about it.

“ you haven’t forgotten how to coach in that time frame”, you can if you never how to in the first place….
user avatar
Of course Mullen is going to say that. Every coach in the SEC hopes he keeps the job, because that's one less powerhouse to deal with every year.

Except Ed usually beats Mullen.

he's not going to be critical of an opposing coach, and certainly not during the week of the game.

If you’re getting paid 6 to 8 mil a year, then you absolutely should be judged week to week no if’s ands or buts about it. If they made 100k then no. They should honestly be thanking fans daily for the life they get to live because of fans. Ungrateful to get paid that much and expect a ton of leniency
