John David Mercer-USA TODAY Sports
LSU head coach Brian Kelly spoke with reporters after the loss to Alabama and was asked about Jayden Daniels who suffered a head injury on a hit that could have been called targeting and did not return to the game.

On the injury:

"He had a head injury and was not able to come back", Kelly said. "We'll have to put him through more testing before we can determine if it was a concussion on not."

On if he thought the hit should be reviewed for targeting:

"We asked them," Kelly explained. "They said that the replay booth was reviewing it for targeting. Obviously, I don't have the ability to see that. But anytime there is contact to the head or neck area, you are thinking there must be some form of targeting. They reviewed it and didn't feel there was. And we moved on."

Here's the play. What do you think?

Kelly should have been in refs faces screaming and bitching like never before ! It happened to his star QB for God's sake!

How does he get to play ONE more down of college football? If this wasn't attempted murder, it was damn sure assault with a deadly weapon (body weight). Look at the INTENT in his body as he arches his back for maximum impact. Look at his arm under his back...you could easily snap a spine like that. If JD is the only thing standing between them and winning, how do you fix that? You eliminate him.

Do they only have to roll their body weight off to the side in the NFL or is that suppose to happen here also...I'm asking.

My biggest takeaway from the hit on JD was the O-Line seemingly just being okay with it happening. I wouldnt have minded a 15 yard penalty after that hit. Make Turner regret that hit.

Young men playing a violent sport deserve to be protected from egregious acts and this guy coming down on him in the way he did was unacceptable and dangerous. The qb was defenseless, the rule is supposed to protect them from egotist like Saban who teach outdated techniques

Kelly is a soft arse coach. He was way too lenient with the no-targeting call. He should have been screaming in the ref’s ear the entire time like any coach that cares would

Would not have changed the outcome, but that was targeting. I spoke to about 10 people after the game and all 10 said it was targeting.IMO the INT and lack of 1 stop decided tha game. Both of these were worth 14 points. The targeting hit finished us off. JD was the team. I hope Woody is on the plane to Bham this morning to file a complaint.

As a coach, its the perfect time to act an arse. Fines be damned, make the SEC and the media choke on their bad calls. Get in refs face, go off in the press conference. Whatever it takes. Instead, Kelly just rolls over.

Bad as some people talk about Coach O, that kid might have had to fight Coach O if he hit Joe like that.

He didn’t retaliate when the UCF player blindsided Burrow with a cheap shot in the Fiesta Bowl. I agree that Kelly should have responded better but the majority of coaches have it made financially whether they win or lose so there is no incentive for them to respond harshly to these situations.

Same here. Was behind him and now he’s the next jimbo. Waiting for retirement. People listen to incentives, no matter the level. If someone gave your next late 50s CEO a clause that says they are guaranteed the next 10 years salary, why would they even care?

Les is more. He'd been ejected after something like that. If Kelly or the refs won't do the right thing, who takes it into their own hands?

Nice nutless statement, Brian. Is he worried about getting fined? I think LSU pays him enough not to worry about such things. Way to stand up for your player, pussy.

Difference between us and Bama. Saban would have rolled those refs. Also where the frick was the O line to have the QBs back after that.

T Bob said it best, it was a dirty hit but I wish it was our team with the mean D instead of the othe way around.

The tell tale of this hit was his concentration through the contact to focus his weight through his helmet and shoulder pads into JD's head/neck. That was not accidental and it was not the first time he has done that in a game.

Targeting!! Typical Bama play to get a good QB out! Texas game last year same thing happened. Good cia h would put a “bounty” on a player that did that to his. A good chop block/ crack back block would even the score. Hopefully the Bama player gets the same thing happen to him the next game. It’s called Karma, not bad wishes.

Two QB’s in Daniels and Ewers and it’s same player for Alabama who did it.

As usual, bama continues to get calls(and phantom calls) in their favor. It’s the way it’s always been. I will be pulling against every SEC team in the bowl games, except LSU.
