LSU head coach Brian Kelly has significantly improved his defensive staff with the recent hires of new defensive coordinator Blake Baker and new defensive line coach Bo Davis.

Kelly still needs to hire a new cornerback and safety coach and many are expecting former LSU cornerback coach Corey Raymond to land back in Baton Rouge.

Even former LSU player and current ESPN analyst Booger McFarland hinted that Raymond could be the "missing piece."

Recent LSU defensive signee Xavier Atkins and Ju’Juan Johnson are also campaigning for Raymond to be Kelly's next hire:

Stay tuned.

Players that haven't even enrolled yet are weighing in on the coaching search. What could go wrong?

The fact that you already have top DB recruits talking about the guy and he's not even at LSU just shows how popular he is. So, rehire the man because that is how DBU returns.

Maybe as an assistant and still get a DB coach. Win win.

Just get someone that’s going to help us recruit and develop. I don’t care who it is. With the addition of both Bo Davis and Blake Baker, that alone will help our front seven, which in turn will help whomever it is that can recruit the best and develop them. Having studs in front of them, will make them their jobs much easier. I know this, we need to get back to recruiting the 6’2” 200 lb corners and the 6’3 215 lb safeties.

Patrick peterson, Laron landry type players would be nice! But we have to build the brand back up! DBU is fading away from us as fast as a sinking ship! Go get the best safties and corner coaches in the coutry despite if they have a job! I dont care how good your offense is, if you dont have a defense! You get Lsu 2023..

After it’s officially announced, we will know for sure when 225Tyga informs us that he has confirmed the breaking news.

Corey Raymond has gotten lazy guys. The last 3 years he hates to recruit. Doesn't work with players much and every year he threatens to leave if he isn't paid more. Florida hired him last year and already fired him at the end of year. Kelly isn't going to hire Corey Raymond.

Im a real fan! If raymond comes back to Lsu we will sign the best secondary Lsu ever had in 2025! You already have recruits begging for him to come back! Plus you have his track record with Lsu.. Look at how many stars in the secondary went and got drafted and still playing in the league at a high level.. Smh you drunk..

Just a matter of time. I think it’s been a done deal since Baker was hired. Not sure why they are waiting to announce it unless they are looking for a safeties coach too. I would love Chevis Jackson over Raymond but either are upgrades from what we had. Coaches from the boot will rector the hell out of Louisiana. Kelly has assembled one hell of a staff on both sides of the ball. Greg McMahon for ST coach and Raymond for DB would be a home run.

Rector?! Damn near killed him!

I hope Kelly is smarter than to fall for Raymond. He and Ryan Clark are connected at the hips. Will be bad for LSU. Keep Raymond away.

It feels like Raymond will always be associated with LSU in some shape or form.

Raymond brings in top DB recruits, that's his ticket to being a top DB coach. He may be a average DB coach, but bringing in top DB recruits all of the time makes him look like a top DB coach.

The concern with Raymond is that even after he is hired, there will remain one piece missing on Defense. Really hope we can bring in some strong analysts to offset the impact.

Hire a really good coach to coach safeties like who was it, Miles or Orgeron, but they did when Raymond was still DBs coach.

NOPE. Can recruit, but we use to bitch daily about Raymond's inability to develop and coach up lesser talent. Do not want.

Morris Claiborne, Therald Simon, and many more were low rated recruits.

Recruiting is more complex than it seems. I sat with one prized recruits’ family, this week.
Many have no idea of how much respect Louisiana families have for the former LSU players, including the one’s that have coached at LSU. Their presence on LSU’s staff recruits for LSU across all positions. Go through Matt Moscona’s analysis of Corey Raymond and you will understand why it is smart to have him on the staff. It you truly understood how hard recruiting is and review results, I doubt you would call CR lazy. Xavier Filsaime can tell you! If CR was in BR that is where he would be headed.

You lost credibility when you mentioned matt mascara.

And no coach at this level should be held hostage by any recruit just because they say “fr bruddah” or whatever that language is.
user avatar
tucoco28 months
It's called slang, man, I mean you were a kid once and spoke crazy young people language I'm sure, so, stop acting like you above that. It don't matter if you White or Black, when you're young you create your own language until you grow up and grow out of that stage.
