Former LSU player Ben Simmons is catching a lot of heat after his underwhelming play in Sunday night's Game 7 loss to Atlanta, scoring just five points in a must-win game.

For the series, Simmons was held under 10 points in four of the seven games and shot 15-for-45 (33%) on foul shots.

Following Sunday's loss, Shaq had some heavy criticisms for Simmons, even saying 'he would’ve knocked him out' if they were teammates:

Ben Simmons had that 43 point game against North Florida, but outside of that he was pretty mediocre.

999 times out of a 1000, a current athlete being criticized by a former athlete like this would have said, "YEAH, COME SAY THAT TO MY FACE." Not this time!

I don’t care about basketball either but you’re lame as hell for making it your personality

And now...Shaq finally understands how Kobe felt about him being lazy and not working on anything every off-season.

Simmons is the Chuck Knoblauch of shooting a basketball. It’s crazy to me just how awful he is at shooting the ball yet makes millions of dollars.

How can Ben Simmons be so good at everything BUT shooting the damn ball?

Doesn't have the heart to be a "great". He'll be very good but never great.

Kevontre Bradford is more of an LSU Tiger than Ben Simmons. KB spent more time on campus and helped us win a big game vs Florida!

This is what happens when team decide to play defense in the playoffs. Regular season is fake.

Isn't he the player from Australia who came to LSU and coasted the entire year he was at LSU and didn't give damn about LSU or his teammates? Yep, that's who he is.

He plays defense too well to be lazy. He is a f'ing head case, though. Not sure if a sports psychologist can help this kid or not but he's clearly worked himself out of a job with the 76'ers.

Dude has been figured out. Can't shoot past 8 feet, can't hit a free throw, and defenses have figured how to keep him from the rack. It'll be a fast, swift fall. If he could shoot, he would have gotten better by now.

correct. i’m sure he’s worked on his shooting each summer. He knows what the problem is. If he could improve, we’d have seen it by now. But he’s getting worse.
