Yahoo Sports is reporting that LSU head coach Will Wade and Arizona head coach Sean Miller have both been notified that they will be subpoenaed for the April 22 federal basketball corruption trial.
quote:

The impending subpoenas mark a potentially dynamic development in the college basketball corruption case. It creates the potential of two high-profile head coaches testifying in federal court about the granular detail of the recruiting underworld – something that never manifested in the initial federal trial last fall. It raises thorny questions for the public universities that employ them, as both the optics of potentially testifying in federal court about basketball recruiting and potential answers that could be given under oath will be a likely cause of consternation for Arizona and LSU administrators.
Shortly after this report came out, Wade addressed the media for his weekly Monday press conference. Here's what he had to say:

North Carolina confessed to the world that "Our diplomas are not worth the paper that they are written on because our classes have no integrity". I think LSU will be okay.

Unfortunately, this is not an NCAA investigation. This is a federal investigation. On top of that, the NCAA treats sport blue bloods differently.

North Carolina is a blue blood team. The NCAA will go to great lengths to protect that cash cow. LSU? Not so much.

NCAA recognizes academics is a joke, but this improper benefits stuff gives them the real hard on

Why would they be "notified they are going to be subpoenaed"? Just issue the subpoenae to notify them.

If only this kind of time and effort would be put into college football too.

Screw sports! The Federal Govt ought to be investing this kind of time and effort into their OWN DAMNED corruption! What in the hell does Washington have to do with collegiate sports? shite! Look at all the wars we're involved in that have NOTHING to do with our actual national security? (Maybe it's time for college athletic departments to investigate the federal government!)

Oh yes. Let's question LSU and Arizona about corruption in basketball. No Duke. No UK. No Kansas. No UNC. LOL.

Those teams are all traditional powers that land top recruits every year. LSU is just an average program that all of the sudden started landing premier recruits once Wade arrived. That's what set the alarms off.

Hey paradigm...LSU has been bringing in bog time talent for a long long time. Hell...Rudy Macklin in the late 70’s was Mr Basketball in Kentucky..yet he picked LSU.
user avatar
honeybadger0763 months
Genestealer...do we need to say why Macklin chose LSU? Same as why Shaq picked LSU and has recently made slight comments on it in jest.

It's importnat to remind the readers Will Wade does not stand accused of anything. It is simply being called to testify
user avatar
Actually he is.
user avatar

Which is what, exactly? Don't worry, I'll wait.
user avatar
Correct. Wade will receive a subpoena and "may be asked to testify." This is standard operating procedure for a court case. Wade would not be subpoenaed were he an investigative target. This is not hard, people. Focus.

North Carolina has been nailed on numerous violations. Classes just for players that no one else went to. Yet no NCAA penalties. This is nothing!
user avatar

The difference is that UNC is a traditional power and is legit year-in and year-out. LSU is just an average program, yet suddenly starts landing top recruits as soon as Wade arrives. It's obviously going to set off some alarms.

I didn't realize Wade recruited Ben Simmons and Jarell Martin.

well, that was an NCAA deal. This is a federal govt deal, although Wade's involvement will be next to meaningless. No way his lawyer lets him talk about anything that could be used against him.

Don't fret yet. He's only been subpoenaed to testify regarding the issue. There is nothing indicating that LSU (or Arizona) is being questioned in order to lead to an indictment of either program. As of now, it sounds like they are more interested in his input on the matter as it relates to college sports as a whole.

Come on guys - paraphrasing but he was recruiting through normal channels and said something to the effect of 'we'll get him what he needs'. The kid never even came here and most think this means a guaranteed full scholarship. Don't contribute to the craziness and blow this out of proportion - it's who he was talking to that got in to trouble and they need to know more about this stuff. We should all want to know more about this stuff.

The system is fine as long as its the predictable schools doing it. When the entire system catches on and makes the system unpredictable is when they want to call foul and do a reset to keep the top programs on top..
