Arizona Teen Charged With Using Dodgeball As Weapon Against Ex-Girlfriend In PE Class

What are we doing here people...

NY Post – He claimed he never meant to hurt his classmate when he and his friends hurled dodgeballs at the girl during warm-ups for the class at Mayer High School — about an hour outside of Phoenix — in December 2025.

“I didn’t think a dodgeball would hurt. And these are small ones too. So you can squeeze them and like they compress and stuff,” he told AZ Family on Wednesday.
quote:

He and the other boys told police that the dodgeball warm-up was already underway when they targeted the girl and were adamant it wasn’t malicious.

He admitted to the outlet that he threw a dodgeball at his ex-girlfriend and “hit her,” while another boy missed and a third “also hit” her.

“Obviously I’m going to have to target somebody for dodgeball. It’s dodgeball,” the 13-year-old said. “You have to choose somebody, throw the ball, then try to get them out.”

The teen’s mother told AZ Family she had no idea police had interviewed her son at school over the incident — only finding out months later when a letter from the Yavapai County Juvenile Justice Center arrived informing her that her son had been charged with misdemeanor assault.

“It is absolutely ridiculous. This is a game that every kid in the nation plays at some point in their life,” the mother told the outlet.

“They’re considering the dodgeball a weapon and that he knowingly or willingly, recklessly harmed this girl just playing dodgeball in PE.”

Cecily Schipper said she would understand her son would deserve “punishment” if the situation was “boys will be boys,” but thinks things have gone too far.

She then claimed that her son’s ex-girlfriend allegedly texted her “for rides home after this incident happened in December.”

“It’s just strange. And I was friends with her mom as well,” she said.
quote:

A social worker, who had contacted the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office just days after the alleged attack on the girl, claimed the boys had “relentlessly assaulted her with dodgeballs when she came out of the bathroom.”

The girl was allegedly hospitalized with serious bruising on her upper right rib cage and lower right abdomen, according to a police report obtained by the outlet.

The School Board better think this out . . . if the kid is charged and he uses a dodge-ball as a weapon . . . who bought the dodge-ball and made it available to be used as a weapon? The school board has deeper pockets to sue.

Lol what. You don’t get hospitalized for dodgeball injuries.

So much to unpack here. 1 - bullying is wrong. Don't be a bully. 2 - on the other hand, if you can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen. In dodgeball, you're going to get hit by a ball unless you are the last person standing. Prime example of why males who transition should not be allowed to compete against women in sports where physicality matters.

not sure how an underage boy is in trouble for this. Seems like the school is at fault for letting them play

“relentlessly assaulted her with dodgeballs when she came out of the bathroom.” & “dodgeball warm-up”… seems like he and his friends ambushed the girl before PE class and are trying to hide behind the excuse of it was just a game.

if this is an assault and a "weapon" shouldn't the teacher be arrested for giving students weapons and encouraging assaults by telling them to play dodgeball? this whole thing sounds ridiculous unless there are a lot more facts we don't know.

Even if they did, its still dumb to charge a 13 year old with assault for that.

Another example of why we have men's leagues and women's leagues.

I remember back in the day, the girls would just line up and you just tapped them with the ball and they'd to go sit down...I don't remember anyone ever purposely slinging one at a girl full force

What is the statute of limitations in Louisiana when it comes to assault using a dodgeball? I was throwing some heat in middle school and now I’m a little worried some former classmates might come after me if they see this story. I’m 49, so I think I should be good, but I’m going to lawyer up just in case.

I'm sure at the time it seemed like a great idea to use dodgeball as an excuse to knock the shite out of his cheating ex girlfriend.

I guarantee “hospitalized” means her mom took her to the ER to document the bruise. No one would be hospitalized for the bruise in that picture.
