I have had many songs stuck in my head for extended periods of time in the past. In the summer of 2003, it took me two months to get the theme song from the Facts of Life show out my head. In the fall of 2007, it took me five weeks to get David Bowie's China Girl out my head...that was brutal.

Now, with the Saints current success, I cannot, for the life of me, get "When The Saints Go Marching In" out of my head. I have never had it this bad. It all started when I watched this video a few weeks ago:

I have even had nightmares of being locked in that shed where they recorded that video. My wife heard me muttering "Bum Bum Bum Bum" in my sleep the other night. I have it bad.

I realize that I will suffer through this at least until the Super Bowl...but I am guessing it might be a few more months before it is out of my system.

Any thoughts on getting a song out of your head?

Thanks in advance.

Is it weird that I read Chicken's posts and I feel like I'm reading God's words or something?

IT IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE. IT IS CALLED A "WORM" IN YOUR HEAD. TRY HUMMING THE THEME FROM "GILLIGANS ISLAND" - I READ THIS SOMEWHERE, AND IT USUALLY WORKS FOR ME.

This actually works: You need to recite something constantly, out loud.
Eventually, after a few hours of that, it will replace the song.

It could be something very uplifting, such as a mantra or affirmation.
Lord I surrender.
I am love, and there is only love.

something like that. put a couple of affirmations together in a longer phrase and say them out loud for a few hours. I know it works.

What's The Best Way To Get A Song From Being Stuck In Your Head?

a study a few years back showed that this was usually caused by not hearing the entire song and that listening to the entire song could prove to remove the song from your head.

it was funded by the feds so it is probably BS.

I think listening to the song over and over and ruining it for yourself is a good way...

happens when you like a song too much too..

maybe find something to replace it with...
