Call your legislators tonight. Long cca email copied here:
CCA MEMBERS AND LOUISIANA ANGLERS — WE NEED YOU!?
?
TOMORROW (April 29, 2026), THREE (3) of our menhaden reform bills will be heard in the Senate Natural Resources Committee at 10 AM in Baton Rouge at the Louisiana State Senate (Committee Room A-B). These are the bills:?
?
HB 757 (Rep. Cox) — Civil penalties for buffer violations
HB 872 (Rep. Zeringue) — AIS for ALL menhaden boats
HB 886 (Rep. Orgeron) — Public harvest data transparency
These bills passed the Louisiana House with near-UNANIMOUS SUPPORT — and the menhaden industry itself supported (NOT opposed) these three measures.
This is common-sense oversight. Accountability. Transparency. And the industry agrees. But common-sense legislation still has to clear committee. That's where YOU come in.
TAKE ACTION NOW:?
?
CONTACT THE SENATE NATURAL RESOURCES COMMITTEE MEMBERS — Tell them to vote YES on HB 757, HB 872, and HB 886. ?
??
?Please send a personal email to snatr@legis.la.gov ?
??
?and/or click HERE to send a guided VoterVoice email.?
?
CONTACT YOUR OWN STATE SENATOR — Tell them you want these bills passed.?
?
SHARE THIS MESSAGE — Every share gets us closer to the finish line.
This is how we protect Louisiana's fishery. This is how we hold a billion-dollar industry accountable. This is how we deliver wins for the Sportsman's Paradise.?
?
LOUISIANA ANGLERS — IT'S TIME TO MAKE NOISE.
CLICK HERE TO EMAIL YOUR SENATORS VIA VOTER VOICE
?
?One more step that takes 30 seconds:
A personal phone call carries more weight than any email.
?Legislative staff track every call for and against a bill.
When you call, use this script:?
?
"Hi, my name is [YOUR NAME] and I'm a constituent in [CITY]. I'm calling to ask Senator [SENATOR_LAST_NAME] to vote YES on HB 757, HB 872, and HB 886 — the menhaden reform bills that passed the House with near-unanimous votes. Please support these 3 bills. Thank you."?

Done.
I genuinely align with what you are pushing but brotha… These folks voted in are ignoring us. I’ve tried to push for it with those I know and our elected officials are MFers with donations.
Hoping for the best

Hopefully these 3 bills pass the committee. Sen Hensgens from Abbeville is chairman and looks like they didnt even bring up the bill limiting catch (TAC) from Sen Fesi for debate or vote. I think that means these 3 non-controversial bills have a good shot. In the house they had no opposition from legislators or the menhaden industry themselves. Most important is the Orgeron bill removing the veil of confidentiality on harvest data. LDWF requires the captains to have a log of where they make net sets lat/long and an estimate of what they catch (lbs or millions of fish). This is incredibly important info for the public to digest. Also if the menhaden industry wants to claim they are doing no harm, they should have no problem allowing this info to be public.
If we do get to see this information, we will see the truth about localized depletion and how it occurs.

It’s a step in the right direction, but it’s only gonna be as good as the enforcement. Louisiana has to start taking enforcement seriously. And I’m not talking about writing tickets for having a short trout or not having a plug in your gun. I’m talking about real enforcement with real consequences. Actual amounts of dead by catch going over the sides of these boats.

The three bills that passed are nearly worthless, especially with the directions from the Fourth floor to WLF not to do anything to inconvenience his financial backers.

all 3 passed Senate committee today...

In my opinion, this is purely tactical by the menhaden industry and Landry. I believe the bills now go back to the House, then Landry can either sign the bills, take no action, or veto.
Long way to go in a short amount of time with this session.

The 22’ line and a creel limit are absolutely necessary for the long term recovery of our coastal ecology.

I am sure the pogey boat captains will be completely honest with their “estimates” of catch and bycatch. They have the governor on their side. No LDWF agent is gonna step on those boats or be waiting at the docks for them

Exactly. These bills are feel good measures that do nothing. No one will oppose them because they do nothing.

I swear no matter who runs against Landry, that's who I'm voting for. It can be a liberal black women who identifies as a giraffe, they got my vote.
