Any reports of Specks in the surf at Grand isle/Elmers this week?

I’m here right now
Waters kinda shitty and it’s a south wind all weekend so I doubt it gets better
The bait is there though. When the wind is better it’ll be on

Not stacked up yet, found a few scattered at the barges and Belle Pass, no luck on the beach since Thursday

I caught some pretty ones this morning but it was in the bay. You can see pretty water off the beach but at the shore it’s all kicked up and fonky

That shitty water seemed to keep us from being sharked. First time in 6-7 years we had had zero encounters with the Taxman. We probably caught 40-50 keepers and a bunch more small ones. And some hammers too. Mangroves were elusive, only 3, Buggy told me no one has been catching any yet.

My campground neighbor that lives down at Bridge Side in May and June said Thursday and Friday were the first days he’d been able to comfortably fish and the surf has been like chocolate milk most of the month.

The sharks were all at west delta 117. We reeled in a 9 pound red snapper head

We thought about heading that way because of all the big Lane Snapper being caught, but opted to hit the easy button and towed up to Fourchon.

We were there for 5 days last week and it was pretty bad.

Rained several days. Windy as shite pretty much everyday. Water was chocolate milk for several hundred yards away from the beach.

Did not really hear of any good reports either.

I will agree with the other poster that said bait was everywhere. Tons of birds diving all day long a good ways out from the beach. Waves were just way too bad for my 19ft bass boat.

Is it true you need some kind of permit now to go on Elmers Island? I haven't been in 10-12 years.

We went out of Empire and were in the same area as boats going out of GI/Fourchon. We caught maybe 8-9 mangroves in 2 days and also about 8 beeliners. The sharks were bad. Prob caught 2 over 7 foot.

You’re supposed to check in at the honor box when you enter the property, like at all WMA’s.

We had a box full of big pretty live shrimp and still couldn't buy a mangrove at the honey holes. Still a little early I guess.

Didnt have any problems finding big arse amberjacks though

I hate those bastards

Been here since Friday. It’s been terrible, the wind has made the fishing hard.

It’s a combination of a few things as to why offshore fishing has become more challenging.

With the removal of platforms in the gulf there’s a lot less structure. Since 2010 roughly 3,000 - 3,200 platforms have been decommissioned. South Timbalier is a ghost town there’s hardly any platforms in that block that remain.

Additionally, mapping services, electronics, more capable boats and social media has more fishing pressure.

We need more near shore reef habitat all across Louisiana.

I’m tired of hooking up my boat and bouncing it down hwy 90 just to watch the wind blow the whole time we’re in grand isle
