Only one high school baseball commit from Louisiana

Wild how far reaching Jay Johnson’s recruiting is and kids coming from all over the country to the Powerhouse. It’s even more apparent with the transfers as well. What a load of talent headed to Baton Rouge…

there are lsu fans that believe you need a player from Louisiana in the lineup to win. hell i wouldnt be surprised if people want John pearson to star over knox for that very reason. not sure where knox is from tho

Yeah, anything could happen but I don't see a Louisiana guy breaking the every day lineup at this point. Your primary starters (in order of who is most locked in) will probably be:
Milam (NM)
Watters (MI)
Bide (TX)
Serna (TX)
Park (TX)
Braun (IN)
Laya (CA)
Kurland (FL)
Wachs (FL)
Then you'll have guys like Washington (GA), Santarelli (WI), and David (FL) knocking on the door.
I like Pearson, Ruckert, and Patrick and will be rooting for them, but this will be a really hard lineup to crack.
Schmidt will be the most locked in LA player as a weekend rotation pitcher.

Probably why we have so many taller players. Louisiana is generally one of the shorter states in America

It was just a light year in terms of Louisiana HS talent. Next year it picks up a bit.

Between the state being down in talent and the portal creating and all time low of patience for both teams and players, you’ll probably never truly get back to a large flavor of La kids on the team. I mean, whether it was their choice or not, we’ve had several over the last few years that left after 1 season. The days of the Dugas, Beloso, and Travinski type careers is over.

To be fair, I don’t think LSU has ever won a title without at least one Louisiana player in the starting lineup.

Louisiana 2027 class is loaded hence the top 6 ranked players in state committed to LSU. Lot of other top players in state for that class are committed to Southeastern, La Tech, NW LA, LSU Eunice, etc. The path to play in the SEC for the vast majority of players with portal and 5/5 rule is to start at JUCO / D2 or mid major and play your way into SEC. LSU is no longer a school where you can go and develop for 2-3 years and then be ready to roll. You will be replaced if it's not working after year or so.

Do you have recollection of anytime we haven’t had one Louisiana player? Kind of a useless stat if it’s never happened or rarely happens.

they may have never won without a stafter from Louisiana but thats just because we never have a team without a starter from Louisiana. it doesn't mean that for some reason that it makes the team better than it would be with equivalent out of state players
