Where to stay in Chicago

We are going to Chicago for the first time in October and I was wanted some info on a convenient place to stay. We are flying into Midway and hoping to use the subway during our visit. Where would be a good place to stay that has easy access to the subways?

We always enjoy The Palmer House. Its blocks from the Art Institute, the Bean, and the Mag Mile. The subway stop is a block or 2 away.

Anywhere in the Loop, up and down Michigan Avenue, River North, or the Gold Coast.
Plenty of options. Pick your favorite hotel brand. They’re sure to have plenty of great options.

My wife and I stayed at the Marriot Downtown Magnificent Mile and it was nice and had a good location.

We always stay in River North. On a flight there as I post this

Yeah, we typically stay between river north and Lincoln park.

Was just there a month ago. Stayed at the Four Seasons, which was very nice and in a good location.

I prefer River North to the Loop. Several places right on the river along Wacker is a good spot. It puts you between River North and downtown.
The Gwen on Mag Mile is cool. It’s attached to one of the malls. The Ritz is right next to Water Tower Place and some rooms have views of the lake and Navy Pier. A spot that overlooks the River is great too.

Stayed there on E Wacker at a Hilton Garden Inn. Good rate and great central location. Several good hotels are in that area. Short walk to the train station, which I used the hell out of for a week. Buses are also convenient to catch along nearby Michigan Ave. Also used them quite a bit. Use Citymapper app or Google Maps to see which bus to catch for your route.
Also stayed at the Marriott on Michigan Ave. Pricier but also central location.

In like the streeterville area. Like magnificent mile. We got a good deal on the Intercontinental from Costco travel and had a great time. Could walk anywhere. Was convenient to the trains and the lake and river were right there.

Neighborhoods are what make Chicago. Unfortunately, there just aren’t a ton of hotels outside of the immediate downtown area. With that in mind, I’d recommend you stay in River North. The Loop sucks, though I will caveat that staying along Wacker is OK. Little more lively by the river. In general, though, The Loop is dead when it isn’t a 9-5 weekday.

My wife and I are in our early 30s and wanted something more “modern”. The Hotel EMC2 was cool. Recommend for anyone 40 or younger. Great area as well (River North).

The Chicago athletic club is an awesome building in a perfect location. Haven’t actually stayed in the rooms but have walked through and eaten in the hotel.

They're small but very well done. Unfortunately the Pritzker family owns it.

I don’t know anything about them. Why would one care about this?

My wife and I stayed at theWIT this past weekend. It was first time in the city and I was pleased. Close to all the touristy spots ( Mag Mile, River walk, navy pier, Gino’s east). Heard there is also a decent bar on the top floor of the hotel unfortunately didn’t get to check it out. But as far as location for someone who has never been to Chicago I have no complaints.

Last couple of times in Chocago we stayed at the Waldorf and the Radison Blu Aqua hotel. Both were awesome, walking distance to cool stuff.

I always stay at the Thompson. It’s in walking distance to most things.
