March - NY, CT, MA, ME, NH, and VT (brewery road trip)

If you are a baseball fan, visit Cooperstown, NY. There are 6 breweries in about a 20 mile radius. 4 of them are just south of town, while another is in larger Oneonta, and one is way out of town in a barn of a former dairy farm.

If you are real adventurous, and have the time if you are in or near the Catskills, visit West Kill Brewing in Spruceton, Catskill Brewery in Livingston Manor, and Roscoe Beer Co. in Roscoe. The latter two are located in the Beaver Kill / Willowemoc Creek area, the birthplace of fly fishing, and the former is smack dab in the middle of the Catskills near the end of a dead end hollow road.

Disney in June

That's it. That place has become so damn expensive that's about tapping out my travel budget for the year.

But the kids want a big trip there and they are reaching the age where they won't appreciate it too much longer, so there we go.

Spain in May. Fingers crossed. I still have a ton of planning to do but round trip flights to Madrid are booked as is an Airbnb during the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona. I need to book places in Seville, Malaga, Majorca, Valencia and Toledo.

As usual, COVID complicates things.

March: Poland (Auschwitz) and Ukraine (Chernobyl).

May: I want to go to Norway, but as of now there’s a 3 day quarantine. Not sure I want to deal with that. If I don’t go to Norway I will probably take a drive from Vancouver to the Yukon.

July: Most likely Jasper National Park in Canada.

November: Most likely a major foreign city/country in the Northern Hemisphere where winter weather isn’t a problem or a mountainous destination in the Southern Hemisphere. Top candidates: Israel and Patagonia.

December: Same as November.

Likely some weekend trips sprinkled in there somewhere.

March: Poland (Auschwitz)

Just got back from a trip there in Mid December. I think you'll be fine with Covid. The case rate/100,000 in Poland has consistently been among the lowest countries in Europe. Access in was not hard. You know the issues coming back of course, but wasn't that big a deal.

We based in Krakow and hired a private driver to take us to Auschwitz for the day. Well worth it in terms of local knowledge and flexibility. If you need some suggestions let me know.

2022 will be domestic only, but yesterday flew to CO with my 3 year old and 3 month old and had one of the most hilariously bad flights of all time

So while we didn't get stressed out or anything, there could be less gusto for too many trips this year.

It makes me laugh thinking now how we were going to bring our son to Japan in November 2020 and Croatia 2021. Japan got cancelled and I talked my wife out of bringing him to Croatia, but now it's just parents only for international until 2025 or something. She has seen the light.
