Gotta feel like Lebonon should be at the top of the list. Maybe not right now, though I haven't been paying attention, but its been an on and off highlight of the middle east to visit for me. No way in hell I'd go there right now though, and I'm not sure that will ever change in our lifetime.

My beloved wife, who is now with God, was from Lebanon. One part of me wants to visit bigly, but then again, not having her there with me at my side might be more than I can bear emotionally.
I met this man a few years back who was in the foreign service back in the 1950s and 60s. He served in Beirut for about 4 years in the 1950s. He told me it was like living in paradise at that time. Everybody got along, and the women were beautiful. He said when he got transfered out he almost resigned and married some Lebanese woman and stayed, but in the end thought better of it.

Also Georgia. Looks like some good mountains for hiking and cheap wine. Not sure it’s a shite hole though.

You guys are hitting all my travel spots. Spent time in the Atacama desert in Chile in 2019. Was supposed to be in Namibia last year and again this year ... both postponed due to Covid.

Georgia is still possible later the year.

Now Namibia is 2022 and Mongolia is 2023. Was in I Iceland in 2018 and headed to Antarctica in 2025.

All with Racing The Planet ultramarathon series. I hate to run, but love the destinations/ settings of the races and the people you meet from around the world.

A lot of pussy and not much epic in this response Cajun.

Imagine if you cancelled a trip to Chicago or NY everytime you heard of a shooting? I've been to Cairo multiple times and felt entirely safe. The pyramids should be seen by all. Whip it out and get on with it my friend.

Yes it is you clown. Any place that has political assassinations via car bomb as the norm and hosts the worlds most wanted terrorist is an absolute shithole. It’s a borderline failed state.

Pakistan has some beautiful places from what I can tell, but the political situation there is abysmal. No way would I want to go visit anywhere near there on my own free will.

Similar to plenty of the ancient areas in that part of the world. Beautiful scenery, but not the best place to visit. Afghanistan, for example, is a beautiful country that any American or Westerner would be insane to visit.

Almost all of the money is in Saint Petersburg and Moscow. Both are exceptional cities, and Russians are kind to tourists. Tourists are still a novelty to them.

When they hosted the World Cup, there was a sense that they had to be on their best behavior, to show off their country to the rest of the world, and they were excited.

I continually felt like a house guest that had been invited in. And that was true at restaurants, shops, and even a pharmacy at 2 AM.

They’re not a western people and you can see that in their language.

quote:

??? [rod]: family, kind, sort, genus

?????? [ródina]: homeland, motherland

???????? [rodíteli]: parents

?????? [rodít']: to give birth

??????? [rodnít']: to unite, bring together

??????? [rodovói]: ancestral, tribal

??????? [rodstvó]: kinship

All of these words share the same root.

From an essay on Katehon.com

quote:

The Russians have a sense of connectedness to themselves and to other human beings that is just not a part of American reality.

It isn't that competitiveness does not exist; it is just that there always seems to be more consideration and respect for others in any given situation.

Barbara Brothers, again lifted from Katehon.

I really loved Russia.

Neither South Africa or Namibia are sh*tholes! SA is extremely westernized and Namibia has some of the most advanced infrastructure in Africa

The real answer for me is Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo. I want to visit mountain gorillas in the wild and hike up Mt. Nyiragongo and look down into the lake of molten lava.

And if there's one country that's a s***hole, it's the DRC. Just in January, six park rangers were killed in a gunfight with poachers. On February 21, the Italian ambassador to the DRC was killed during a kidnapping attempt. Tourists have been kidnapped and held for ransom. And yet, I would still go.
