I have stayed in Vail and the dates I want to travel for a return trip are booked but I found availability in Breckenridge. Has anyone been to both? If so should I change travel dates or just give Breckenridge a try? I enjoy Vails walkability and atmosphere. TIA

They are both nice. Very different towns. I prefer Breck. Each has fantastic skiing.

Random story: First time on skis in my life was at Breck. My friends thought it would be hilarious to take me to the top of the Imperial lift to start the day and then they all took off.

That was a long trip down from the top of the mountain.

Breck is my home base every year for skiing and I think it's a great place to go. Great town with plenty to eat/drink. Very accessible skiing with a ton of variety and something for everybody. Close enough to drive to other resorts for a day trip.

My second time skiing they took me to the top of the Birds of Prey run at Beaver Creek and pulled the same stunt.

I went down it, but I doubt anyone would have called it skiing.

I like Breck with two ways into/outof Denver, all the stuff in Frisco/Silverthorne, and your not really that far (within 45 minutes-hour) from Vail, Beaver Creek, Keystone, A-Basin, Copper, and Loveland.

In the 10 years I lived in Colorado I always for whatever reasonconsidered it to be the least likely place that Coloradans would ski. I much prefer the slopes at Vail but I’d take Breck for the party.

Breck for sure. Went in April before the end of season, Covid protocols were lame, but the mountain didn’t know any better.

Yep, I’ve never skiied at either but based on my conversations wih the hardo skiiers, they all seem to begrudgingly love Vail and just flat out dislike Breck.

For skiing I would take Copper all day over Vail, vastly better layout and less crowds.

Never been to Breck so hard for me to compare. That said the locals I talked to at Vail, seemed to favor that mountain over the other Epic mountains.

It’s just really hard to touch Vail for pure skiing. Every lift is high speed and well placed. The terrain is as large and diverse as any mountain. Vail isn’t where I’d go as a beginner/intermediate but as a strong intermediate to advanced skier it is the best developed ski mountain in the Colorado.

Has everything but a lot of places to stay, but Frisco/Silverthorne is right there. I think a lot of people would end up just as happy staying somewhere in Summit that isnt Breck, ski between Copper and Loveland. Save some money too.

As far as skiing goes, Vail mountain and it’s really not close. Vail might be the best mountain in North America for overall land area, varied terrain, layout, etc.

From a skiing aspect, Vail is bigger and better, but that's not really a knock on Breck.

The towns are much different. Breck is and feels like a legit mining town where Vail feels more manufactured and Disney like.

Vail and Breck are the #1 and #2 most visited ski resorts in the US but Breck is half the size of Vail so it feels more crowded.

If you want the best of both (great skiing and a mining town feel) go to Telluride. I've never witnessed a crowded day at Telluride.
