Looking to spend 5-6k ( airfare not included ) on a 6-8 day trip somewhere. Just me and the wife going. We are both late 20’s and in good shape. Looking for something with excursion/exploring options but also still the ability to relax. We have recently done Cancun and really enjoyed it but that was our first experience out of country. Any suggestions would be appreciated!!

Colorado mountain towns in June/July are wonderful.

Dont you people usually go hike in a south American jungle somewhere and meet all the natives?
Try the Virgin Islands and do some diving.

Probably too short a time to consider Europe.
With that time and budget, consider:
Vancouver Island. OMG it's beautiful. We stayed at the https://sookeharbourhouse.com/ (check if open now or not). Huge island that you'll barely scratch the surface on.
Check out this Rental!
Olympic Pennisula in Washington. We stayed at the Lake Crescent Lodge. So much to see and do in the National Park.
We've done multiple trips to Banff and Lake Louise in Alberta. Last time we rented a small cabin at Baker Creek. The whole region is spectacular and its an easy flight to Calgary.
Want one of the coolest places in the World? Stay at Emerald Lake Lodge!

Never even considered Canada. I’ll check it out though!

Yea we’ve done Colorado in the winter several times but never in the summer. It’s an incredible place.

And, what’s the name of that Florida BBQ place you recommend several years ago? I think it is south of Orlando.
For the OP, these are my suggestions:
San Diego
Vancouver/Whistler BC
Florida Keys
Cashiers/Brevard area of NC - rent a cabin on Lake Glenville

Yeah, I was going to say Banff/Lake Louise seems right up your alley.
Vancouver and the surrounding areas as well.
Your budget would allow for Europe but the time frame might make those two options more appealing than Switzerland or a trip where you combine Paris and Chammonix (this would take 8-9 days for you to not feel drained imo).
Never been but I’ve been looking into Chile down the road, specifically Vina Del Mar. Your budget is more than enough but it would be better if you could add a couple of days.

We stayed in Victoria at Abigails Hotel. Yes, Butchart Garden is spectacular. We spent most of our time in Sooke Harbor. Went fishing. Hiking. Vancouver Island is actually on a bucket list to go back to one day and spend more time on the island.
Good Article!
Peebles: Best BBQ In The World!
Grew up with the owner and his brothers. Great classic old southern BBQ joint. Been there since I was a kid. Closes during part of the summer as they don't have ACand it gets hot as hell there.

I agree with those who say the mountains, western mountains, in New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Utah, California or Arizona

Check out Via Ferrara in Banff. Perfect for your request.

Europe is high on the list but we want to have at least 2 weeks for a trip over seas. After seeing all the Canada comments it’s hard to ignore! We are basically narrowed down to Canada, Peru ( I love the mountains and ancient history ), and third on the list would be Hawaii. ( the wife loves the beach )
What sort of activities are there around Vancouver/Banff during the summer months?
Peru seems more cut and dry as far and the things we would like to do / see.

Fly to Colorado, rent An adventure van (class b Rv with 4x4) and drive through Southern Utah and see all the sites then go to the west side of the rockies were tourist don't go.
I would raft the numbers too or royal gorge.
With the van you can make your own excursions. Take timber and park roads and camp out with views.

This is exactly what we did.

One of the things that is remarkable about the coastline in the Pacific NW is the lack of population. We here in the south look at the Florida coast and it is jam packed.
I love VI. Take a ferry ride over to Port Angeles and check out Hurricane Ridge, the Olympic Mountains, and Port Townsend.
Also, consider the Oregon Coast. Small towns all up and down the coast with stunning views, beaches, and hiking trails in the coastal mountains. You can drive inland for a couple of hours and visit the Columbia River Gorge, Crater Lake, Bend, Sun River, Smith Rock, etc. All have great hiking trails for all levels, plus you can do things like sailboarding in the Gorge, or a quiet innertube float down the Deschutes River.
Oregon has great breweries all over, and is underrated for it's wine.
Again, magnificent ocean views from Astoria at the mouth of the Columbia River, all the way down to Bandon and south into CA. The biggest town on the coast will probably be about 15,000 people, yet you will have no problem finding world class seafood, beer, and wine.

+1
Have relatives out there. Did this last year. Crater Lake has to be singularly the greatest natural wonder in the world.
Bend is a really cool town. Lots of restaurants, breweries etc.
We rented a small house at Sun River Resort. about 20 minutes from Bend. Has everything you'd want. Hiking. Kayaking. Golf. About 1 1/2 hour max to Crater Lake.
