This isn't meant to be political but it has become a travel issue so just curious how others are handling it when trying to plan summer travel.

I originally wanted to fly into Calgary and go to Banff and Glacier but I can't fly into Canada (if I'm reading the protocols correctly) so then we were going to do the NE but now Boston has followed in NY's footsteps and banned the unvaccainated.

Are you guys anticipating things changing at all by summer or what are some good nature centered vacations for a family of five with young children?

Eventually the only way to travel will be vaccinated + booster + negative test.... I'm honestly expecting that for any international travel

Mexico and Colombia don’t give any fricks about Covid. Croatia let’s you in with proof of recovery or a negative test.

I’m pretty sure my wife had Omicron when we flew back from Cancun a couple weeks ago right before Christmas. The resorts test came back negative. They don’t want to hole you up and feed you for a week. Lol

I think the airlines will pushback hard enough that we won’t see the requirement there. With that said, any plans to visit a major metro area should include expectations of limitations on unvaccinated.

Outside of a few ski trips this winter, where you only need to show proof to eat on ski resort property, we will spend the majority of time in Florida and Tennessee. We may head out west to a national park this summer if they don’t begin requiring vax proof to enter.

International trips other than Mexico are off our list for the foreseeable future. A little disappointed as we had a planned England, Scotland, Ireland trip set up for this summer.

In case anyone wants to head south Igo in and out of Costa Rica every month and Im there now and it’s easy peasy. If you aren’t vaccinated you just buy travel insurance. The only other thing really is getting tested before entry back into the US.

On January 8th they are making hotels and restaurants choose between operating at full capacity with a vaccine mandate or 50% capacity without a mandate. Of course nobody is going to choose to operate at 50% capacity.

Wait , what ? Damn. I had no idea lol. On a side note, fake certificates are everywhere here according to all my Tica friends.

I can find nothing anywhere to confirm this above.

I googled it and found it multiple times in the first page or results.

Just a fair warning but National Parks are federally operated and out west there are tons of libs working in them and visiting them, they are very cautious and a lot of things like visitors centers are shut down or limited.

They are also extremely busy. Still one of the better options, but depending on the extent of the fed government involvement you are by no means in the clear of any potential issues especially for someone not vaccinated.

I'm not sure where you live, but I'd highly consider a local summer spot like a lake, river, park, etc.

A lot of resorts in Mexico will basically just touch your nose for your covid test and it'll come back negative.

They don't want you there and they do not give a frick

If you truly love to travel, it seems a little ridiculous to not just get vaccinated to be able to do it. Its going to be the requirement to most places worth anything for, maybe forever.

But if you're fine with doing Mexico, Carrib, Texas, Florida, Tennessee, etc, that's what you'll need to do.

When you say “banned the unvaccinated”, what exactly are you referring to? Needing to show a vax card to gain access to indoor places?

Actually a Costa Rica travel blog I follow says most restaurants are opting for 50% capacity instead of the mandate. Some hotels are going with the mandate.

I think its ridiculous to require people to take a shot (several shots), that is obviously not working, in order to do the things we freely did 24 months ago.

I have been here in CR for almost 3 weeks , have never been asked to produce anything and many restaurants are at full capacity or just have one or two tables vacant. Whatever people are reading, it’s obviously just for appearances and nobody is actually complying. It feels absolutely no different to me than Baton Rouge.
