San Antonio Lodging Suggestions

Looking for a quick getaway at the end of the month and thought we'd hit up SA. Never been but we like to eat, drink, shop and sightsee so I thought we'd give it a try. Suggestions for lodging in the heart of the Riverwalk would be helpful. I also recall mention on this board of great places to eat. I searched but could not find those threads...
Lodging, dining and activities suggestions are much appreciated

I have stayed at hotel contessa and mokara hotel and spa on the river walk and thought they were both fantastic. I’d say I liked mokara a little better but from what I recall contessa was in a slightly better location. Boudros is a good spot to grub and also liked iron cactus. Also a short walk from river walk is mi Tierra cafe y panderia. It was LEGIT.

Hotel Emma is fantastic, but it's not near the "heart of the riverwalk", so if that is your overriding requirement then best to look at other options.

Stayed at Hotel Valencia last January. Great location, highly recommend.

Agreed - stayed there about 2 years ago. Very short walk from the hotel to the Riverwalk. Nice location.

Seconding the Hotel Contessa. Stayed there a while back, but it was really nice, on the Riverwalk with some outdoor dining, rooftop pool; nicely appointed/locally-styled room, and a really nice staff.

I've been a few times in the last 10 years. Stayed at Marriot Rivercenter, Marriot Riverwalk, & Hyatt Regency & Grand Hyatt all on Riverwalk. All decent places. Riverwalk is cool for a weekend, but I've done it enough now that I'd probably stay in the Pearl District and maybe uber to Riverwalk one evening.
IMO Marriott Riverwalk was the worst of the 3. At least the part I was in was in need of updating.

Omni La Mansión del Rio is directly on the river and centrally located.

I've spent 100+ nights in San Antonio and always stayed at the Marriott RiverCenter, The Westin Riverwalk, The St. Anthony and, if all of those were sold out/out of policy, the Courtyard Riverwalk.

The Menger across from the Riverwalk. And they have a nice bar.

Great recommendations on the lodging. I'd also second Mi Tierra cafe, it is a can't miss if staying down town. Lots of great restaurants in the South Town area which is on the south side of down town as well as the Pearl area which is on the north side of down town. below are a couple of links for those two areas,

riverwalk is gross.
you probably won’t but if you did skip it entirely you’d be better off.
stay at the Emma. It’s spectacular and there is plenty of superior restaurants in the Pearl. Outside of that we like the ice house, hot joy, la fogata, Chris madrids and many others

Stayed here in 2015. It was perfect for a romantic weekend if that is what you are looking for. Maybe a little more expensive than some of the others depending on room and optio s, but we loved it.

Hotel Gibbs. Well kept hotel. Great staff and breakfast. Older, historical boutique hotel.
Located right across from the Alamo. Walking distance to just about anywhere.
