I'm taking a one night trip to Denver next month. I'll need a rental car for 25 hours. They all are charging for 2 days at over a $100 a day. Going to be about $250 out the door for the rental. If there was anyway I could Uber around I would, but I'm traveling well outside of the city.

* meant to say 29 hours, a little too much to shave an hour off.

$100 a day isn't terrible, depending on what it is. Why don't you just hang out at the airport before and make it less than 24 hours?

Get back to the airport an hour earlier OR hang around in the concourse or terminal for a bit to squeeze your time under 24 hours

I've always found Denver to be high for rental cars. In fact, a trip to Denver is what first pushed me to try Turo. Check that option out.

Rent a U-Haul truck; it’s much cheaper.

This is the way. Had the same situation back in 2021. We got a nice new Turo Kia Sportage with a sunroof for less than HALF the cost for the cheapest rental car.

We did have to Uber into town to pick it up, however.

You can get from/to the airport to/from anywhere on the rail system for $10 a day. Of course you'd have to get a ride share from the last station to your destination if that was a reasonable distance.

Is there a rideshare program? Uber vs Rental is probably your best bet. Sucks, it feels like auto rentals are only affordable if covered under your policy, due to repairs etc. Any other time of need is very costly. Honestly though, I can't blame rental companies.Vehicles are expensive but most importantly, people changed.Too many people lack appreciation and respect for other's property.

Anecdotally, I don't really see the prices climbing all that high but I rent from National almost all of the time. Friday, we fly into Ft Meyers and fly home from Orlando a week later. a 7 person mini van was $417 for the week. I remember paying almost $600 for a car in Maui ten years ago.

Last February, I paid $350 for a car in Salt Lake for a ski trip over Mardi Gras for a week. When I went in January, I paid almost $400 for a car for four days (Sundance Film Fest).

Point being, dynamic pricing is more of the cause than just a surge in pricing.

Try booking thru Costco. They have always been the lowest option over the last few years for me.

Costco uses Enterprise and charges about 1/2 the price

Costco normally saves about 10%, maybe 20% but it does include an extra driver at no additional cost if you need that.

Also, not much help for a 25hr trip, but a lot of times a weekly rate is cheaper than 4 days.
