Recommendations for a 4 day trip in San Francisco

Wondering if anyone has any “must-do’s” in San Francisco this time of year? We are definitely going to try to bike the Golden Gate Bridge and check out Fisherman’s Wharf.
One day, we wanted to spend daylight driving down the coast to the likes of Monterey or something similar.
We will be there starting tonight (going to check out a Giants game this evening) and leaving Monday.
Any tips and suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Heading there next week. The only thing touristy we are doing this trip is Alcatraz. I always recommend those hop on/off tour busses. They have been great every time I’ve used them. Hop off and explore a neighborhood for an hour or two. Then hop on and ride for 5 minutes. Repeat...went to 5-6 diff neighbourhoods in SF in one day. Cheap too. and there are many busses so you don’t spend much time waiting for them to arrive.

Oh wow. Why not? We’ve been to Venice/Santa Monica and kind of assumed it was a nicer version of that.

You should go check it out. It's touristy but so what. It won't eat up a lot of your time. And if you like seafood, you can get some really solid Dungeness crab there.

I mean, to each their own, whatever makes you happy. Truly.
But just a fair warning that Fisherman’s Wharf is notoriously about as much of a tourist trap as it gets.

I agree 100%, and that goes for any city, not just SF

Alcatraz slipped my mind. We are definitely going to squeeze that in somewhere.
I’m going to look into the hop-on/hop-off buses. Was unaware of how beneficial they are. Awesome tip!

Hit up Muir Woods, think you need a reservation now. Climb the Gilbert steps to foot tower for some great views. Take a ferry ride, they are cheap and essentials a bay cruise. Catch a giants game if you can. There are hikes all over the Bay Area if that’s your thing. I would recommend purisima just south of half moon bay for a fantastic challenging redwood hike, think Muir Woods with elevation and very few people.

You can go North to Muir Woods, Stinson Beach, and up to Point Reyes which is a nice drive, hiking spots, and the lighthouse.
If you do the Giants game make sure to bring decent weight jacket for when the sun goes down.
Yes fisherman's wharf is a trap, walking along the bay never gets old and stopping at Ghirardelli Square is still fun all while knowing its a trap. Berkley, Piedmont and few other places in the East Bay are great. Best view of the city is from the Berkley Hills at night.

Muir Woods and the Land's End Trail were two of my favorite things around SF. Sausalito was a cool little area too.

We were there about 20 years ago for a week I think.
Alcatraz is worth doing I thought.
We took a ferry to Saulisto and ate lunch; nice little restaurant.
If you are driving to Monterey you might as well go on to Carmel by the Sea.
Samantha Brown just did a segment on her show ‘Places to Love’ about Big Sur & Monterey. The aquarium looks like a must see place if your there. You might be able to find the episode on line.
We got 3 day bus passes that we used for the city busses and the street cars. Don’t know if that’s still an option.

Went there last summer. Great place.
My wife and I enjoyed:

•Ferry to Sausalito and grabbed lunch
•Big Bus tour- Highly recommend if you want to see the whole city and be able to hop off where you please (Haight-Ashbury, Painted Ladies, Lombard Street Pier 39, Fisherman’s Wharf area, Chinatown, Union Square, Coit Tower, Golden Gate Park, etc.. )
•Giants game
•Muir Woods tour
If you enjoy pizza, Tony’s Pizza Napoletana is a must! Also is you like to drink, 21st Amendment brewery is a great scene with awesome brew especially before a Giants game.
We took a rental after our SF stay and drove out to Sonoma Coast State Park along the Pacific. From there we spent a few days in Sonoma.
All in all, a great trip!
