We had a great time, so certainly it'd rank right up there.

My favorite trip to Europe was Munich. The people were very nice, the food and beer were good, and the area is beautiful. There are numerous castles to visit and driving to them is easy. I would also suggest going to Dachau if you are a history buff. You can also catch the train to places such as Salzburg and Oberammergau. You will not be disappointed.

I've never been, but off all the places in Europe that are on my bucket list, I'd go to Greece, Bavaria, Austria, and Switzerland. Band of Brothers was on all day yesterday, and I watched the final episode again. If Bavaria and Austria are half an beautiful as what was shown, I'd go there in a second.

I love Austria. Been twice. Salzburg. Vienna. Probably the singularly most beautiful country in the world. Want to see so much more. Would be there right now if not for COVID 19. Was planning on going to Hallstatt. Looks to be the prettiest town in the world to me.

You really need to get into the mountains. Salzburg is 1 of my favorite places(been 9 times) but the Alps are magical.

Talked this morning to my friend in Fieberbrunn. The snow finally hit this morning and will likely last until spring. I didn't think that I would enjoy being in the snow, but went February 2020 and it was absolutely fantastic.

Not being able to go to Austria is starting to wear on me.

I miss those Euro planning threads, too. I've got a return to Scotland on my list (farther north this time, Skye and Inverness), the Dordogne, Brittany...and in non Euro travel, thinking of Quebec City/Montreal and Mexico City.

Take a cruise out of Barcelona and finish in Venice. Go early and scope out Barcelona and Madrid (the AVE high speed rail makes it easy). Stay after and see more (I suggest either Venice / Innsbruck /Neuschwanstein Castle / Munich / Salzburg - OR - Venice / Split ...by Ferry / Slovenia / Vienna / Salzburg / Munich) Either way, fly home from Munich.

In short, the cruise is easy and hits the major Med ports, and the only planning is for before and after (which are also pretty easy).

Wherever you go, stay safe and have fun.

Favorite place... so far... is Arles, FR.
Roman ruins [coliseum, theater have activities], castle, 30 minutes to beach, short drive to the great aqueduct, stone age village, Van Gogh asylum and sites.
Day trips to Carcassonne, Avignon, or Monte Carlo.
If you are into these types of venues.
Cote d'Rhone wine caves abound.

Wife and I were just talking yesterday that this would be an amazing time to visit Hallstatt, Colmar, etc. The experience of those towns has been largely ruined (IMO) by the bussed in hordes.

As a few others are saying one mistake me and the wife did was trying to do too much on one trip, we did too many cities and spent way too much time packing/unpacking/flying/trains etc. wasted probably 1.5 days of our entire 6 day trip that could have been better spent at 1 or 2 locations.

Make sure you leave at least 2 FULL days per location, unless you are going for more than 1 week i'd limit your trip to max 2 cities. you can always do a day trip like if you go to paris, spend a day in London or something.

I live in Belgium, Would be a great visit for 7 days. Fly into Brussels as your base, stay in Gent for a night or two, Bruges and Antwerp for a day trip and visit some breweries, (eg. La Chouffe, Maredsous, De Koninck)

I am saving Switzerland to be coupled with my Tour de France trip in 2/3 years. Plan on taking in as many stages as I can around Grenoble/Albertville area then head to Switzerland.

1 big city then head to the mountains.

Then to Fieberbrunn, Austria.

so looking for some place different

As I said earlier, I've been to 23 European countries, but I realized that I didn't really answer your question of someplace different.

My favorite place in Europe is the Azores. These are volcanic islands, incredibly green (like Ireland, they get lots of rain because of the Gulf Stream), interesting vineyards, stunning scenery, beautiful gardens, interesting food and culture, and quaint cities and towns (especially Angra).

It's very different.

Start picking Eastern/Central Europe - Czech, Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatia, BiH, Hungary, Poland, Austria. We much prefer over Western Europe. (Have not been to Iberian Peninsula)

Can't recommend Prague enough. Paired with Budapest (easy train ride) makes for a great trip.

Every time I think about Covid cancelling our trip there in 2020...

Others have mentioned Switzerland, but there's no way to describe the beauty of the Swiss Alps in type. We based in Lucerne, but visited Lauterbrunnen, Grindelwald, Interlaken & the trip up to Pilatus was unbelievable. Can't wait to visit again.
