Prague is my favorite City in the world! In fact, we'd be in Czechia right now had it not been for COVID 19. Really want to see more of the country. Check out places like Cesky Krumlov!

LINK

My favorite Country is Slovenia. A few selected pictures.

Do some YouTube Blogger videos. There's a lot of content out there.

I mean its an entire country, a freaking lot.

I like Western Ireland better than the East/Dublin but you should definitely see Dublin if its your first time.

Dublin get a few pints of guiness, Trinity College/Book of Kels, Grafton Street, etc. You could spend several days in Dublin.

Western Ireland is just freaking gorgeous, relatively inexpensive, and the people are the nicest on earth. The ring of kerry, cliffs of Mohr, Dingle, Galway, etc etc are all beautiful and fun.

I just love Europe in general. I have not been to Prague but really want to along with Budapest and Vienna.

I LOVE Spain, much more than I thought I would. Seville is awesome and laidback and has wonderful sights. Barcelona has ridiculously awesome architecture and world class food. Madrid is kind of big city with not THAT much to see but does have 2 world class museums and some really great food.

Italy I could write a whole book on. If you want to talk Italy that's a whole different thread.

Around a week without air travel time...later next year ...definitely after all the covid stuff is gone...

Just planning now ... covid restrictions probably cause some delay because do not want restriction etc on anything....this may push back ... flexible...

I think you'll find once you're on the trip that 1 week won't be enough! Now, that may be all you can do.

So..

If you can't take more time (I've found 2 weeks minimum if I'm in Europe), then don't get sucked into the trap of "If it's Tuesday it must be..". Which means you try to squeeze all these locations/countries in "just because you're over there".

Pick one location and just stay. Immerse in the local culture and not kill yourself running around.

That might also speak to a location where you can get good airfare, major hub where you don't have to do multiple connections to get there.

Know it might sound crazy, and I haven't been, but I've had friends go to Iceland and loved it! Would check some of those boxes above.

Would second Italy or a trip like that too. If you like Castles, old stuff, nothing better than going to Florence, Orvieto, Sienna. Check those out. Easy enough to fly into.

How about not Europe? Canada is amazing. Banff. Lake Louise. Vancouver. Vancouver Island!

I'm planning to travel this summer as I think many locations will be open but require proof of negative test or vaccine

I plan on spending 5 day in Belgium, followed by 3 in Amsterdam, 5 in London, 5 in Ireland to finish it out

Btw I absolutely love Belgium and think it is one of the most underrated countries as far as history, culture, and atmosphere

You really can't go wrong in any of those places, but I've always been partial to Italy.

If you're only going for 7 days, the trick is not to overdo it and overextend the amount of things you plan on doing.

For instance for the major cities, you really need at least 3 days to cover some of the major major stuff. For places like Paris, longer.

Spain you could do Barcelona/Seville/Madrid easily in 7 days although its a little cramped. You really don't need that much time in Madrid to be honest.

Plan to take your time a little in certain places. I wouldn't do more than 3 homebases in a 7 day trip and that is pushing it.

The Loire in France is great for castles, the king went there in the summer and the court followed him. There are also many older fortifications, built because of internal strife, and because of the English threat.

I believe it has the highest density of castles in France.

Romania is also a good place for castles. It was heavily fortified because of the Ottomans.

My wife and I went to Italy this past February. We left MSY on a Friday night and got home the following Saturday.

We spent 3 nights in Rome and 3 nights in Tuscany, we took day trips from Monticchiello. We hit Orvieto, Siena, Florence etc.

It was a great trip, we did AirBnB's and rented a car for the Tuscan portion of the trip. It was our first trip together overseas and it really couldn't have gone smoother.

We are looking to do either Spain, France, or Prague for the next one.

I would echo Romania. Spent a week there last year. Now, it's not for everyone. The poverty can be a little depressing. The flight to Bucharest included a change over in Amsterdam. About 15 hours total.

BUT....

The food. The culture. Cheap. The scenery can be amazing! Definitely "Cultural Immersion".

Selected Photos.

With only a week you could look at Munich, Salzburg, Tirol etc. Who knows Oktoberfest may be back on next year. If you go in the winter that area is amazing and there are plenty of places to go within a couple of hours on the train.

I saw someone mention Iceland. I had a couple of friends go who loved it for about three to 4 days but said anything after that would be too long.

What can I say? I love castles.
