ATL is just busy but otherwise is pretty smooth.

It's incredibly efficient for the worlds busiest airport. You may have a walk a little ways once you get to your terminal, but the layout is great and you can get from one end to the other in about 5 minutes on the plane train.

Not a fan of Atlanta either but the Miami airport absolutely blows.

Came here to say this.

DCA has done a ton of construction (and continues to) so it’s gotten much better. Unless you’re flying Southwest, Terminal 1 (formerly Terminal A) sucks arse and probably always will.

I don't know when you lived there, but there is a clear conflict between SEC fans that leave from ATL, and those that fly through it, via Birmingham, etc. If it's your origination point, it blows. As a destination point it
is average.

I've said this before, but having all security lines go into one line, that is so long that they wrap around baggage claim and go outside. Well, someone's failing. But let's not ask questions about how contracts get awarded in in Fulton. Minneapolis was great, but I only transferred through it, and never checked in or got baggage there.

It sucks balls, but not as bad as JFK. My comparisons are only TYO, FRA, AMS, IST, SFO, LAX, BRU, CDG, and a few others. Having to beat shite to get to the counter at IST is not the same as trying to fly to NYC ou to of Atlanta and standing in line for security for 30+ minutes. I prefer any of those airports to ATL, except maybe LHR and CDG (just because of distance.)

I fly out of Atlanta 20 times per year.
Security is almost never an issue. I have clear and precheck and it works.

There is more than one security station.

And I can fly direct to almost anywhere other than small west coast cities.

There are 3 standard security checkpoints- North, Main and South. main is usually clogged up; I tend to use North and South and they move decently well. For my NOLA trip 2 weeks ago, I went through the South checkpoint in under 15 minutes on a Sunday afternoon.

ATL is obviously my home airport and I agree it's not my favorite, but for a mega airport functions smoothly and mostly reliably.

I will say that security issues have been pretty bad intermittently for the last 18 months or so, although I think probably a bit better the last 3-6.

. I just rebooked a flight from going through atlanta in july to going through detroit. Same layover times but last connection in ATL I almost got stranded after my hr 45 min connection got busted due to weather and the 25 minute taxi from the furthest runway.

MCO gives the taxi time a run for the money. Majority of time not taking off, but landing. You basically land in Tampa and taxi the rest of the way.

Very true but at least on southwest they act like it's the Indy 500 while taxiing so it doesn't take all that long

Haha! Flying back into Atlanta and arriving early is usually meaningless. Early arrival just means sitting on the runway waiting for a gate.

As far as taxiing can DFW be rivaled?

JFK and Charlotte stand out as two that always take forever. Charlotte mostly because you always end up just sitting there for 10 minutes
