Might want to make sure it is okay to bring your dog there and that it doesn't have to be quarantined.
This is six months in some countries.

I'd put as many layers of towels in its kennel as possible. Hopefully your seatmates won't want to fight you because of the smell.

Not only could it be quarantined depending on where you are going, but some countries require that the dog be microchipped before entry.

A 9 hour flight isn't that bad. Working people who don't take 3 month vacations overseas leave their Yorkies at home for 10-12 hours alone, daily, without incident. They take their pups outside when they get home and the dog does its thing.

You should petition the airline to get Boeing to design an aircraft that allows your dog to walk around and pee.

What dumb fricking answers. You would leave your dog behind for 3 months?
A 9 hour flight isn’t that bad. Just put down a towel and then 2-3 layers of puppy pads and you’re fine. You can get a safe sedative from a vet that will knock it out for most of the flight.
I would be more concerned about the quarantine which I’m hoping you’ve already looked into.

I don’t have a dumb fricking animal because of scenarios like the OP, and even less extreme scenarios. My in-laws can’t take a trip because they can’t trust their dumbass dog to behave while they are gone. Last time they left it, it nearly killed one of their other dogs, and it bit a mail carrier recently.

nine hour overseas flight
That's like 63 hours in dog time. You should let him have the seat, and you ride in the overhead compartment.

Board the dog. No one wants to see your dog but you

If traveling to the UK it requires its own pet passport, rabies vaccine, microchip and tapeworm medication or it will be in quarantine for four months.

lol all the posters admonishing this dude for bringing his dog, as if it's abnormal behavior.
1) make it pee before you leave
2) don't give it water
3) put down some pee pads
4) give it a xanax (you can get this from your vet)
5) if it barks or disturbs people, you'll be expected to put your hands around its neck and squeeze until it stops moving

ATL has a room in each terminal where dogs can relieve themselves. They can piss before departure but you better give the, a sedative for the flight.
Notice how many people are raising the quarantine issue. This is very real and customs will confiscate the animal at your point of entry if you don't have all the appropriate paper work. Doesn't matter if you are connecting on further.

I’ve only once seen a dog in the cabin and it was a service dog.
If I’m on a 9 hour flight and some dumbass next to me has some little lap dog with him just bc that is pissing in the isle, that’s some bullshite.
