As others have said, stay away from Bourbon and other super party areas at night (especially after 10 PM), if you want to go to the WWII museum, definitely spend the whole day there. I spent 11-5 there and still didn’t get to see all of it. Explore Uptown/Garden District! People just associate New Orleans with crime, Mardi Gras, and Bourbon St and don’t see the beautiful side of the city. Take the St. Charles streetcar through Uptown and see the colorful and old houses.

Just use common sense in the FQ. Don’t go down back alleys and don’t let anybody “guess where you got them shoes from.” You’ll be fine and you’ll have a great time

Seriously just go somewhere else.
The mountains, the beach.

Somewhere away from the shitstains of humanity that infest that dying corpse

You've been so vocal for a long time about what you would tell these thugs if you got the chance.

Why not stay in the FQ?

Bring bulletproof vests or full body armor.

If you’re so scared of the big city, maybe you should stay in Prairieville or whatever podunk place you came from

Come on down, if y'all do what everyone wants during the day no worries I would think. I'd stay out of the 1/4 for lodging, but wouldn't go as far as Metry. Be aware, have your fam be aware, just like anyone should be in a new place to them.
Have fun, come back and repeat.

Thanks for the advice. My wife is on hotels.com and just mentioned maybe staying in Slidell. We don’t need a fancy hotel, just a nice clean, comfortable one to come back to at the end of the day.

Absolutely, but your chances of being involved in something like that are far greater in New Orleans than most if not all US cities. I've been 4 or 5 times in the last 12 months, but I certainly look over my shoulder there more than I do in other cities.

No they aren't. You looking over your shoulder is your own choice. Says nothing about your chances of being victimized.

One day won’t even get you through the lobby

If you want the real WWII museum experience you better be prepared to carve out 2-3 days

Dude, if you are saying the random crime is comparable between Nola and other cities, I don't know what to tell you. In the overwhelming majority of time, yes you are going to be fine, but you are also much more likely to be victimized, especially in many poplular areas. Even if it's a stray bullet.

Those two things aren't mutually exclusive.

Absolutely not Slidell. If you do not want to stay in Nola, stay in Metairie.

A cursory glance at the Google machine says otherwise.
