Looking to take a trip driving distance from NO. Been to beach too many times. Any suggestions on Memphis or other places

Just about every place but Jackson Mississippi is better than Memphis...

I like Memphis, but it's a weekend destination and it's hotter than Hades in July.

We live in Memphis. There isn’t a lot you’d enjoy doing as a family for an entire week. I could point you to some local stuff to fill up a week but not vacation worthy.
-Shelby Farms
-Redbirds Game
-The BBQ Shop or Central BBQ
-Pink Palace
-Children’s Museum
-Graceland (overpriced af)
-Anything on Main Street. I tell folks to avoid Beale.

The zoo was nice. Went late July while I had to kill some time and it was hot as hell.

Maybe hit Memphis and than pick another place like Nashville and then stop in Chattanooga to round it out to spend a couple of days in as well and back down to NO
That would be a week worth of activities with a 2/3 days at each spot.

I would just head east and go to the Smokies.
Another option to look at is the Marriott Grand Hotel Resort in Point Clear, AL.

Don’t go to Memphis. Honestly, and this is coming from a Tennessean, Memphis is terrible. Go to Nashville or the Smoky Mountains instead.

If you do something really bad in Tennessee and are convicted and sentenced by a judge, your sentence might include the words:

Memphis in the summer sucks arse. It is miserably hot and humid. I threw away a suit one time after a June Memphis wedding and post wedding party at Raifords because it was so gross.
I actually enjoy weekends in Memphis in the winter and at the Gin Show, but frick Memphis in the summer.

far more to do in St Louis if the cards are playing a weekend series than there is to do in Memphis. Costs are about the same too.
St Louis Zoo is top #2 in the country and free. Plus its located in one of the biggest urban park's (forest park). If no kids, st louis is also a big drinking city.
