Key West suggestions
Going to Key West in March. Already have a place to stay. Do y’all have suggestions on must do’s and don’ts? TIA

ETA: We’re flying into Miami, renting a car and driving down the keys.

My first suggestion would have been stay as close to Duval as possible but sounds like you have a spot picked out... Aside from that Southern most point, Hemingway home, and lighthouse during the day... nightlife can be very “Bourbon St” like at times but not sure how COVID has changed it... Can’t remember the name of the restaurant but it was located literally on the beach just north of the Waldorf Astoria it only like 3 tables and was delicious

re: Key West suggestions
I just got back on Wednesday -- had a great short trip. A lot of the charm of Key West is just all the historic architecture. There aren't that many truly unique places in America, and Key West is one of them.

I think the thing that many people don't realize about Key West is that it's really not a beach destination. I stayed at The Reach Resort, which is on the only natural sandy beach on the island. All the other beaches on the island are artificial, with sand imported from the Bahamas or the Panhandle. If you value a quality beach and aren't at one of the very few resorts on the south coast of the island with natural beach, you may want to stop at Bahia Honda State Park on the way in or out to Key West.

I don't know what kinds of things you like to do (are you going with kids?), but I enjoyed the Hemmingway House and the Mel Fisher Museum. I had a good Cuban dinner at El Siboney and a fun lobster pizza at the Seaside Cafe at the Mansion.

We would've gone snorkeling on the reef, but it was windy, and that means that underwater visibility would be poor.

Watch the sunset from the beach at Fort Zachary Taylor. The fort also has a one hour overview tour, if you like that sort of thing.

I would highly recommend a plane to the Dry Tortugas. Leaves from Key West and lands on water at the old fort. About 35 minute plane ride. Cool, relatively low flight over and back over clear water. There is a ferry that goes over also but we didn’t want to spend 5 hours back/forth on a boat. Seaplane provided snorkel gear if you wanted it. It was a good trip and we have done it twice. Highly recommend if you like this sort of thing.

Fury catamaran sunset booze cruise is fun to get out on the water and drink unlimited beer
Mallory Square sunset celebration
Blue Heaven for brunch
Check out the places along Bight marina
Rent bikes and check out all the neighborhoods and architecture
Check out the tarpon feeding under the lights on Sunset pier
Flip a coin in the tarpon's mouth above Captain Tony's for good luck
Get a table along the sidewalk at Caroline's Cafe to people watch, drink, and order a burger - they really are the best burgers in Key West

Was there twice in 2020. Best meal I had on both trips was Cafe Marquesa. Really enjoyed the historical sites- Hemingway House, Mel Fisher museum , Truman Little White House. Couple of nice wine bars on Duval. Bikes are a must
